Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout announced for Disney California Adventure

I guess this community has decided to debate this forever huh?

It's one thing to have a negative emotional reaction to something and another to repeatedly express feelings that verge on anger and/or frustration. Anonymous online commenters so quick to complain benefit from the fact that, in most instances, there's no way they will be identifiable happily waiting in line when it opens. If you are so bothered by the direction the parks are headed I dare you to cease giving The WDCo your hard earned money and quit your Disneyland habit.

We'll see how the public responds. If it ends up being a flop I'll eat my mouse ears.

Ok I had this very random thought but I feel as though if Hyperion Theatre wasn't such a concrete mess and actually looked like a art deco theatre, then the Tower might not actually look as bad next to it. Not sure if that makes sense lol

Indeed, if they put up an art deco facade and used the same colors of Mission Breakout, it would be a heck of a lot better.

I wouldn't call this a game changer.

There are over 250 pages worth of posts here on this topic with no end in sight. If this was business as usual it wouldn't be so controversial among fans.

But...but... it could be so much BETTER than this! It'll be a hit because it was a fun ride to begin with and they're slapping a hot IP on it. I'm sure you're right and it *will* point the way toward more cheap IP overlays versus building great new attractions to increase capacity.

I dunno, maybe you're right, but I think we've both been around long enough to have seen the typical online fan freakout when something new comes along, especially a classic ride transformation, only to see it eventually die down. I guess what I'm saying is let's see how this ride turns out artistically and how the public responds before jumping to conclusions.

As much as I gave grief to someone who just wouldn't stop posting the same "I hate it" over and over again, I gonna give you the grief for do the same thing in the opposite direction. You just won't stop posting the same thing over and over again about how good it is.

So, if you're gobsmacked about how interminable this thread is, find a mirror...

Best advice ever. Thank you.

I would alter that to say never underestimate a Disney fan's ability to excuse their point of view. The last couple of pages has been dismissing the whole article in question based on one poorly written analogy. Any writer will tell you they take lots of swings. Some of them miss. It was one miss in an otherwise well thought out article. The overall point is valid. TOT is a key component in tying the theme park together. The DCA redo included tying TOT into the backstory of the park. All of the references are gone and Disney knows it as they have been removing all references to that backstory from BVS. DCA is a far less cohesive park with TOT being removed. That is the point of the article.

Hey, hold on there you're making too much sense. You're supposed to focus on that one goofy reference in the article and post lame memes, one-liners and bend over backwards making excuses why this cheap and easy overlay is a good thing for the park. Then we're all supposed to like and agree with you.

I think what they have will be better than ToT by a storytelling, technical, and entertainment perspective. If they weren't 100% convinced that altering the Tower would be the best thing for DCA, they wouldn't have done it.

The problem is, emotional attachment and nostalgia are tough to beat- especially when they could improve each of those aspects while leaving it as the ToT.

The only argument I can see right now is that a decade from now, when Marvel Land is built and the public has had time to get used to the Tower, we will accept it as better.

Technical and storytelling concerns weren't part of the rationale for this change. I understand the desire to caste this as somehow a creative choice, one based on well founded arguments and made by people with an interested in technical innovation and powerful storytelling, but it simply wasn't. This was a marketing decision.

I understand if you like this attraction - many people will - but it is rather explicitly not intended to promote nostalgia or emotional attachment. It is intended to promote the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Dude, would you chill out? I can focus on one line in the article, if I so choose, because like I said, that was the only thing in the article I found ridiculous. You don't like my posts? Fine. Don't read them, but stop acting like I don't have as much as a right as you do to post my thoughts. I haven't said anything disrespectful to you personally or anyone here, so stop disrespecting me.

In what way does it "certainly seem like it will be"? Look at anything Disney posts about it and there more negative comments than any other thing they ever post. Not saying the reaction is entirely negative but there a lot of people, not just us, who will look at this ride with a critical eye because of the situation and if it sucks (which the exterior most certainly does) they'll call it out.

Frozstrom.
