Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout announced for Disney California Adventure

My guess--and I base this on my impression of things, which may be totally wrong--is people who post on web pages and message boards are a pretty small fraction of people heading into the parks. There may be a lot of negative chatter but it isn't broadly based.
Agree on this one.

Like Season of The Force, and every other bizarre overlay Disney has done recently, a year from now the conversation will be about how overcrowded Hollywood Land is and how all the GoTG FPs are selling out within a few hours of park opening.

Well since the Disney community has a negative response whenever something is added to the park….or taken out of the park…or there are discussions about additions or subtractions…or anything, really, I would guess Disney doesn’t take much notice.

This is true and unfortunate. However, I would think Disney would be keen enough to notice that the back lash regarding the TOT overlay isn't only coming from the usual suspects and the vast majority of even causal DL fans do not like this idea.

Common backstory that links Tower of Terror in Japan (really most of TDS has subtle nods to S.E.A.), Mystic Manor in Hong Kong and Big Thunder in MK. Rooted in the Adventurers Club from Pleasure Island.

There are plenty of other characters from that photo above which is featured prominently in the MM queue to work with. I have suspicions that Soarin' in TDS might adopt the aviator, or the rumoured Everest project for Shanghai could use the mountain climber.

Super weird that I was just blathering on about this and they are now using Mary Oceaneer (the ship captain) in the new Typhoon Lagoon ride.

Maybe there is hope for DL to get something sort-of original via S.E.A. The Imagineers clearly have an affinity for it.

My guess is Disney will ride this out and by the time Breakout hits (and I'm with you on that lousy name) the casual naysayers will have lost their low level of outrage and will want to see the new thing.

Yea you re probably right. Great business model though..."Here take this, we know you ll like it eventually, it still drops and eventually it ll be part of a cohesive ( not sure how unless the whole place looks like that ugly warehouse thing) Marvel land.

Instead of...

"No lets build a brand new state of the art ride for this great IP and not shoehorn it into a haunted hotel drop ride. "

Disney is aware of the negative feedback, they mentioned it in a mgmt meeting last week and it was a topic of concern. They spoke at some length of the feedback received on the Parks Blog and after tallying percentages, the negative comments far outweighed the positive, however a lot of posters were neutral on the TOT issue.

Yup, that’s the game these days.

BTW, the folks you referred to as the usual suspects? They seem to have worked up an outrage over the parade and fireworks now. Here we go again!

So is there any way they reconsider the plans based on the negative feedback?

This is wonderful if true. It really lets me know that leadership at Disney is really that out of touch with their fans/ customers.

They're so tone deaf and out of touch it's unbelievable. If closing Aladdin and Mad T Party provoked thousands of petition signatures, what did they think ditching TOT would get?

By the way, this is all their own fault. They're the ones who push nostalgia and memories constantly, and then act shocked when they get backlash on changes. You can't have it both ways.

The same could be said for the fans who rage against just about everything Disney does. My magic mirror told me this morning that this whole ToT thing will blow over as soon as the next controversial announcement is made, and my magic mirror is never wrong.

Oh the fans are not exempt - I'm just saying Disney created a situation for themselves where any changes will be protested.

Hmmm.... maybe they should have been better prepared for backlash, but even if Disney said it sweetly with strawberries and whipped cream plus a year of free park passes for the fan faithful there'd still be plenty of complaining and finger wagging at management.

To a Disney executive, neutral and positive are the same thing. Therefore, positive outweighs the negative.

Leotas crystal ball tells me that the fans complaining about the GOTG overlay are not the same as the ones who complain about a paint change or a light bulb being out in coke corner.
