Well, I imagine the point is Disney doesn't think this re-theme will be a mistake.
I do realize that but, to those of us that view the destruction and reimagining of ToT is a huge mistake it is like a smack in the face (hyperbole). The fact that they are billing a completely dark ride is because they are closing the openings in ToT to make changes for the new ride. This is so they can keep the ride running and bill the fact that there will be no effects or view of the park as a "good" thing because it is different. Less, but different.
Riding during a refurb never sounded so great. :greedy:o_O

Honestly, I'd be interested in doing ToT in the dark. As you say, it'd be a novelty and I bet a lot of folks will try it out on that basis.

Taken at the tip top when the doors open and you overlook the park. Apparently the "dark" ride version doesn't open the doors?
I thought they said that the GOTG version will open the doors but there will be a false window/video screen of some sort that will project a futuristic world versus looking out into DCA and DL, thereby ruining the illusion of escaping from a futuristic prison (or whatever it is).

From the good old Disney Parks Blog:
"Experience The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ as you never have before … in complete darkness!"

Any confusion is completely understandable, and apparently encouraged by Disney. (The term "a little bit pregnant" keeps coming to mind...)

So, it's going to be completely dark, except for, you know, the parts where it's not.
