Hate to break it to that guy, but DCA's ToT was always basically all screens too without a single AA -- so the addition of 1 AA is already a huge plus.

Scene #1 is literally a mirror/screen on a wall surrounded by a few lights, plants, and a table (craaaaaazy theming, right??). A similar special effect can be found in the Star Tours queue now. Scene #2 is a hallway with a screen at the end of it for a projection that lasted all of 20 seconds maybe?). Assuming they still use the depth available in scene #2 and don't literally open the doors to a screen (if they ditch this, that is beyond stupid), we're not talking any difference here.

Let's be clear -- minus a few fun special fx and the actual drops, what you see below WAS the entirety of the the ToT ride.

Here's somebody claiming to know what's in store for MB:

#GuardiansBREAKOUT on the inside looks… exactly how you’d expect it to look from the garbage WDI glue and stapled to the outside.

#GuardiansBREAKOUT lobby has Figment & Matterhorn’s Harold (course) and all sorts of other eye-roll fan-service cheap “collector” theming.

“Theming” an attraction using leftover props decaying in a warehouse is what I’d expect from Six Flags, not Disney. Come on… Demand better.

#GuardiansBREAKOUT on-ride experience is 100% screenzzz. No more physical sets like ToT had. Cheap, easy, replaceable. The new mandate.

#GuardiansBREAKOUT is WAY MORE intense/thrilling than ToT ever was. Elevator is CONSTANTLY in motion of some sort. Not in a good good way.

#GuardiansBREAKOUT made several people physically ill who really used to love ToT. Here’s hoping it doesn’t happen to you…

One bright spot in #GuardiansBREAKOUT is the raccoon AA in the library which people described as “extremely well done” and “very cool.”

#GuardiansBREAKOUT continues the new WDI tradition of only needing one good AA figure in new rides. Pandora, Roaring Rapids, Toy Story…

I’m not at all looking forward to #GuardiansBREAKOUT. Still haven’t seen the movies. I’ll ride it but meh… Not getting a lot of confidence.

And that’s what I’ve got on #GuardiansBREAKOUT. Enjoy.

So here are my thoughts...

1. I think having Harold and Figment in the lobby is a nice touch (although maybe too self referential) but it goes with the whole "Collectors tower landed in DCA" story.

2. I agree with his thoughts on the exterior. Nuff said.

3. I seriously hope they did not downgrade the show scenes and remove the physical sets from the foreground. I was worried about this. This probably upsets me the most. Downgrades aren't cool.

4. I'm going to reserve judgement until I ride. I'm all for more thrilling but there is something to be said about a nice pace and flow.

5. Hope I don't get sick but not too worried about it

6. Glad to hear about the Rocket AA in the old library. That's pretty cool. I was worried they would cheap out there.

7. I agree and hope this majority screens and 1 good AA trend ends.

8. Who is this guy and how does he know all this? A an angry friend of some imagineer?

I am actually intrigued with what could be done if there were simply a big screen behind the elevator doors. In particular, I'd like to see what they do with the parallax/squinching effect synchronized with your elevator going up and down. You could also have vastly different scenes behind the same doors on the same ride.

This makes sense and most likely why they got rid of the show scenes in the foreground.

What is a parallax squinching effect?

What intrigues you about a screen being right behind the elevator doors?

If it is all screens that's truly disappointing. Since I'm assuming at least one part of the story wouldn't be random it would make sense to have one of the effect corridors have actual...you know...effects.

I'm happy to hear about a Rocket AA though, with the time frame of construction I thought there would be no animatronics at all.

Parallax refers to something in the foreground moving by more quickly than something in the background. Squinching is a term coined by the Universal team (I think - could be wrong here) that means the shifting of a vanishing point in a projected image to accurately match what should be seen by a viewer in a moving vehicle. Shanghai Pirates does this a lot.

In other words, they could enhance the 3D-ish-ness of what's on the screen by having more "hall ceiling" visible when your eye level is down low, near the bottom of the elevator doors, and then more "hall floor" appears when your eye level lifts up to to top of the elevator doors. And it needn't be a hall. I predict we'll see that vast Monsters Inc-esque room with the Guardians amidst lots of vaults - it would be great to see those all move correctly in correspondence with our vehicle's movement.

I sure hope they put the extra effort into this - it would be quite lame if your elevator was completely static whenever the doors were open (eliminating any use for squinching).

What intrigued me about all screen behind the doors means that there could be many more "scenes". People will lose track of where they are in the tower as they bounce up and down. You could go to Doors 1, see scene A, go to Doors 2, see scene B, go to Doors A, see a completely different scene C, then to Doors 2 again, for a completely different scene D, etc. You aren't locked into 2 settings like ToT was.

PRESSLER!!!

You forgot to mention the high-tech fan effect for wind that would make the fake potted palm rustle a bit.

I don't see what's the big deal with Figment and Harold. The Collector's museum was a giant Easter egg factory in the film, so why shouldn't it be in person? As this person said, they didn't see the movie so they have no idea what they're taking about. I am very concerned about the more intense thrill level, however. While I never went on ToT at DCA, I haven't been on the ToT at WDW in several years because it usually made me feel a bit ill afterwards. Hopefully, we can get other perspectives to get a true sense of what this attraction is.

I don't think it's a big deal. I said I thought it was a nice touch.

The new thrill level / pace is one of the things I'm intrigued about most.

Well I'll be there in early June so I'll report back.

I think they were implying that the elevator doors open to just screens rather than the physical sets + projection (which I hope is not the case). Other than that, most of the things they mentioned didn't sound as bad as they were making it out to be.

Thanks for the explanation. I never thought about the elevator moving while the doors are open during the show scenes. That could be interesting.

The variety sounds cool. I just hope it less like Star Tours 2.0 and more like what I believe it will be - 6 different ride profiles with singular story lines and exclusive show scenes. Maybe I can't picture the spacing but I feel like a screen right behind the elevator door would make me feel like I'm watching a TV.

Hope they can recycle the Star field for a couple of the ride profiles. That was a really cool effect.

Although I'm pumped that Figment is in the queue, it doesn't really make sense.

If a major part of the story is that the tower is in Disneyland, why would Figment be here? Unless they somehow explain that the collector also visited Epcot in his free time, that would make zero sense.

Either way I hope a couple more Disneyland artifacts are somewhere in the queue, and I hope all of the cool easter eggs aren't super obvious.

Sorry, my finger slipped as I was replying. I meant to reply to @SSG's post that had the tweets in it. As I said, the thrill level is more of a personal thing so whether it's a good or bad thing can great,y vary from person to person.

The Collector tends to collecting living beings. So the implication is not that he visited other parks, but that Harold and Figment are alive in this universe where they obstensibly are also theme park characters.

I really hope that means we're getting some motion on these figures. Having them at all is awesome but seeing them back in action would be even better.

I'm really shocked that they didn't make use of the fiber optics they had wired up on the sign. I always imagined the signage to read similar to what is does now ie. "The Tivian Collection Presents: Guardians of the Galaxy." Then (perhaps with spray can sound effects) "Mission: Breakout" would appear underneath in fiber optics. Though, I do like the 'stolen' letters.

That would've taken more money, time, and imagination which weren't allotted for this overlay. Far easier to just slap together a sign with some letters removed and call it a day. It's effective, edgy and above all cheap.
