Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout announced for Disney California Adventure

Honestly, the fact that there are no CM previews are what makes me think this is entirely based on them needing every possible minute to finish things up.

Yeah, that's the weirdest part here, and I agree they may be way behind schedule. But that also tells me Micechat wasn't just making up Preview dates and the WDI Party date out of thin air when they announced it a couple weeks ago. I think Micechat had the original concept and calendar correct when they released them, and then things changed for some reason.

Something unusual is going on for TDA to suddenly cancel the entire concept of previews for employees and APs. That's the first time that has happened in the last 17 years, since DCA hosted two weeks of CM and AP Previews in January, 2001.

The wild card here is the $150 upcharge party event, and is likely the key to this mystery.

You're right. Cancelling either AP's or CM previews I could sort of understand, but to do away with both just makes something not seem right. Sadly, we will probably never find out the reasons either.

This was mentioned on MiceChat, but I had a similar thought; when movie studios don't have much faith in a movie, they won't offer screenings for the critics. I wonder if something like that is going on here.

Could be but won't all the critics, bloggers etc be riding it anyway a couple days later?

yes, but Disney will have made all their "special preview" money first, before critics and bloggers can poo-poo it.

I think they would probably sell out either way but I guess that could be the strategy here. I just don't think that the type of person willing to shell out $150 for this event is going to be dissuaded by a critic. It's probably the most obvious thing - that they re just not ready and running down to the wire.

probably. Despite all that we've posited here recently, the 150 buck event will probably sell out and critics and bloggers alike will praise Disney's latest "innovation" and call it the "must ride" attraction of the summer.

C'est la vie.

So who on this thread will be the first to write a (spoiler free) review? Anyone dare to admit they re going to the $150 event? Lol. Anyone going opening weekend? I just realized I'm blocked Sunday the 28th due to Memorial Day weekend.

Count me out.

I'll be at the parks next Friday, but that's as close as I want to get to it before going back during D23.

Yeah I probably won't be able to get to the parks until the following week. I definitely don't want to go on Memorial Day.

I also realized that I have spent so much in parking I may have well as bought the Signature passes (or at least for 1 of 2 APs) Didn't think I would get to the parks so much this year. I've already gone 10 times and my AP doesn't expire until late October.

It's a joke. That it doesn't include unlimited food and at least two alcoholic beverages is a joke.

I seriously hope people don't buy tickets. I want this crap to fail badly so that TDA starts doing stuff right.
I dont think a company like TDA or TDO would accept they blew it.
They would probably do the political way. Aka hire goons an random families to attend, so they can count the numbers up and claim SUCCESS!!

Something tells me that are just behind schedule and time won't allow for them to finish and do testing while giving previews

This seems like the most reasonable scenario to me. I wouldn't be surprised if pre-openings consist of periodic soft openings during normal operating hours for test and adjust.

More surprising to me is that there's nothing known about press previews.

Mine is due in a couple of weeks and I probably am upgrading to Signature. I am grandfathered in and can still add on parking but the price is pretty close once you add parking to a So Cal pass vs a Signature and a renewal discount. On top of that I can get a 13th month free if i upgrade but no 13th month if I stay. Almost a no brainier to upgrade. Darn you Disney!

I may go that opening weekend and check it out. I would only do FP though. I'm not waiting long for it.

DLP is also charging a fee to check out hyperspace mountain May 7th. What they did for softs was to keep the lights off and play the old music this past week. The signs even said as much, that hyperspace mountain was awaiting the grand opening party.

I figure this is the same situation. You can't charge people 150$ a pop to be 'first' and then open the attraction to large groups of people beforehand. I mean you can... but I guess they think it would be tough PR if they did otherwise.
