This was in MiceChat today:

It now appears that all of the previews have in fact been canceled. The Walt Disney Imagineering family party on May 20th has been cancelled, the Cast Member ticketed previews from May 20th thru the 22nd have been cancelled, and the AP Previews scheduled for the 23rd and 24th have also been cancelled. There will be no formal previews of any kind, and only a limited number of Imagineers and DCA Cast Members will be allowed to ride before the 26th. This is all per Michael Colglazier, who wants to sell as many tickets as possible to the $150 up-charge event on the 26th and not have any info or videos leak about the new ride before the 26th.

Sounds about right

Can we surmise from this that Opening Party ticket sales were sluggish?

Either that or Micechat had bad info and these previews were never happening to begin with (I heard quite some time ago there were no expected previews) and/or the ride is a dud and they're doing everything they can to keep negative word from getting out for as long as possible.

Or one other thought -- they are running behind and are literally going to be working on this right up the very last minute. Which would make sense given the crazy short timeline on the re-do.

Were any of the previews ever announced?

It seems the news of previews were just from Micechat and the cancellation just from Micechat and the reason given for the preview cancellation was to increase sales for the upcharge event.

Seems really odd...

No, nothing was ever announced. This was all based on Micechat's reporting that a lot of people took as official word.

And yet there's still news here.... This will be the first new ride in at least the last 17 years that didn't have an official Cast Member and Annual Passholder Preview. Cars Land had CM and AP Previews, Soarin' Around the World had AP Previews, Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters had AP Previews, Little Mermaid had AP Previews, Big Thunder Mountain Redo had AP Previews, etc., etc. Even the temporary movie "Sneak Peaks" in the MuppetVision theater have AP Previews the day before it opens for regular visitors.

Something happened in TDA in the last month or so to cancel the concept of AP Previews.

Opening a new E Ticket without AP Previews is a new thing. And opening a new ride without Cast Member Previews is totally unheard of. I imagine the CM's are scratching their heads over that one.

Could it perhaps have something to do with the general backlash they got when they first announced the attraction? Of all those openings you listed, I can't recall a single one met with such contention. Perhaps they're concerned with early negative feedback leaking out and causing would-be ticket buyers to the preview to cancel?

The ENTIRETY of this attraction looms like a big strange question mark over TDA.

Obviously, I would never wish for Disney to have a flop on their hands....but in this instance I hope they might actually get the negative feedback this whole project deserves...though somehow I doubt it will happen.

However, it is also interesting to note that over in the WDW threads related to Epcot that talks of GotG taking over Universe of Energy have been drastically delayed. This is according to those in the know.

Honestly, the fact that there are no CM previews are what makes me think this is entirely based on them needing every possible minute to finish things up.

Well, there's been plenty of recent history of what happens when you announce an opening date... it weds you to a deadline you might not make.
