Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout announced for Disney California Adventure

It's a joke. That it doesn't include unlimited food and at least two alcoholic beverages is a joke.

I seriously hope people don't buy tickets. I want this crap to fail badly so that TDA starts doing stuff right.
People will buy tickets as so many AP holders think they only pay $50 a month for Disneyland. By depreciating the cost and value of visiting the park, APs are all too happy to fork over $150 and feel special/avoid lines.

Same. It kills me that people are willing to spend money on all these things and thereby seemingly validating these stupid ideas. Fortunately, in some extreme cases (ala WDW's Tomorrowland cabanas...ack!), people actually do know when to say "no!"

I lost track of that horrible cabana idea. Did it officially flop? Have they been removed from Tomorrowland and TDO pretends it never happened?

So Micechat is reporting that there will not be any AP previews...this $150 event is taking the place of that. One more reason that I'm so "happy" we just got AP...for the last time...again.

This doesn't surprise me. Free AP-only events are going the way of the dodo bird. It's been a while since Disney through a major event for APs.

Yeah, trying to remember the last time. I know we did the AP preview for Buena Vista Street and Cars Land back in 2012. We did a Fantasmic AP event as well and I know there were doing AP only movie screenings at the Opera House.

I thought there was an AP preview when Luigi's was redone, but I may be misremembering.

Anyway, Imagine what Disney will charge for a SWL preview. I'm thinking at least $500 (park admission not included)

If they could guarantee riding all 6 versions of the ride I could see how that could be a draw for GOTG fans. It would probably take a good while before anyone is able to ride all 6 any other way. (So close together at that, where you can easily compare/ contrast and identify what the best ride is). However, I'm sure a few diehards can probably do it very quickly.

Anyway i think I read somewhere that they say "attempt" to ride all 6 versions which is BS.

So we know their are 6 ride profiles and 6 different songs. I assume that means each ride profile has an exclusive song. Do we know if the drop sequences will be exclusive to a particular ride profile or if they will truly be random? To me it would make sense that there are 6 ride profiles with 6 exclusive songs and and 6 drop sequences dictated by the story in that profile. So the drop sequences aren't random so much as the ride profile is.

Yeah I'm guessing it's just luck of the draw which drop profile you get, similar to how it is at WDW. Each song having it's own unique profile that's in sync with the music or whatever. Not actually random during the sequence itself though...

Interesting since a few days ago they said:

"May 23rd & May 24th – Annual Passholder Previews at Guardians of the Galaxy"

How many pass holders are there right now anyway?
Would there even be that much of a difference between a passholder preview period and a soft opening?

Why would Disney want to hold a free event when they can charge 150 a pop for something similar? Like the great philosopher Toucan Sam once said, "Follow your nose...it always leads to money!"

I believe you are correct and probably accurate for SWL.

You're not, they had a couple of AP days/evenings for the new version of Luigi's Roadsters last year. I went on it on one of those AP evenings, you had to have your AP scanned to get in the queue and they gave you a free keychain as a memento.

I'd like to know what the odds of this event underselling are, since this hasn't exactly been a popular project.

I think there are enough Marvel fans to at least meet expectations. How many tickets are they trying to sell? I can't imagine it's that many if one can "attempt" to ride all 6 ride variations and still do some of the other stuff.

I think the fact is, at the end of the day its still Disney PR at work. Even if only 10 people showed up, Disney would spin it as a successful event and plan for more in the future.
