Sounds like you made it work :) but I think I need to wait until he's old enough to go on the thrill rides because riding every single one alone on my first trip to WDW would suck.

Skip Space? I heard thats the more thrilling version with more drops. Although jerker. POTC is such an iconic ride I would have to ride the WDW version just to say I did. I need to check it off, especially if I ever get to do my bucket list of visiting all the Disney parks worldwide. I agree with all the others And TOT is a must do!
Space was a torture device of a ride. Very uncomfortable...I was only suggesting skipping it because the DL version is far better. But if you can swing it, go for it.

Hense the reason to never go in the DHS version - no originality. Besides the transition between areas into SWL would suck compared to what we are getting at DL. You know they are going to use the movie set excuse for a crappy transition.
Martin has said the DHS version will be immersive and separate from the rest of the park as well. Many would agree it fits DHS's theme much better than DL, thus making it unnecessary to completely hide it from the rest of the park.

It's interesting that you find MK to be retro Disneyland. Is that mostly because WDWs original Fantasyland hasn't been upgraded?

That's part of it. Tommorrowland also has the pre Tony Baxter screwup at DL look as well as COP, Astro Orbiter in it's rightful place, and a working PeopleMover! Adventureland has the Swiss Family Treehouse and FrontierLand has Country Bears and Tom Sawyer Island intact. Overall most of the rides and lands have had minimal changes since they opened so a lot of the park has a 70's and 80's feel to it. I prefer the route DL has gone, but its still nice to see some old DL favorites are still around somewhere.

Of course the wider pathways are welcome at MK.

Except some of the rides weren't always replaced with better things. COP, peoplemover, Country bears (we have Winnie the Pooh here too), high up Astro orbitor. WDW has gotten rid of things still at DL too, Mr. Toad, Snow White, Canoes, etc.

I think he is referring to the paths and entrances leading into SWL. It seems like their may be a little more of a build up at DL with more trees and all the work they re doing to the ROA. Making it feel a little more immersive and like some separate world away from the rest of the park.
Yeah, but at DHS they have more or less a blank slate. At DL they have to make (Controversial) adjustments to the existing park to make it fit.

It's cool to hate on the super urban-planned monster that is WDW, kinda like how it's recently cool to hate candy corn and mint chocolate chip ice cream. But there are some really charming parts of WDW. Columbia Harbour House and Liberty Tree Tavern come to mind. The Adventureland Verandah. Caribbean Plaza. The Country Bear Jamboree complex. The path from Fantasyland Station to Tomorrowland and the path from Crystal Palace to Liberty Square. In a way, their Space Mountain is quaint and quirky. Their Riverfront is rural, peaceful, dark, and quiet, unlike Disneyland's bustling riverfront.

This isn't to disparage Disneyland at all, but Disneyland gets so much love and fondness for its history, while Walt Disney World is criminally underappreciated for its own history. And I don't count people who just say "It's better because the castle is bigger" as appreciating WDW in the way people appreciate Disneyland.
A big part of that is the actual Creative people are based in California and the people running WDW are mostly business-people. You can read more about it here.

I try to avoid the buses however I can though, they are terrible!!! :D

I must be the only person who has had mostly good experiences with the busses. I had one trip where the longest I waited was about 10 mins. I've had a few long waits, but they're mostly pretty good.

We took 4 and 5 yr old girls our first time, it was amazing for all of us but very tough as we got there at park opening, left at closing...every day. We were exhausted to say the least but they were troopers. There are things you can easily skip but quite honestly, some of their stuff in the MK is different enough where I'd try to do it if I were you. Skip Pirates, Buzz, Mermaid, Tiki Room, maybe Space Mountain but I'd strongly suggest you see their Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Splash, Big Thunder, Tom Sawyer Island, Dumbo & Pan at least. That being said, we literally did everything over two days in the MK.

Dumbo? Why?

Just wait until you sit in a room with all 45 of presidents. Zzzzz.

Isn't it 44 presidents? We did have a duplicate.

.

The novelty of the big top queue and the side by side rides.

As for the buses, only issue we've ever had was waiting post Illuminations at Epcot.

Sorry, that's correct. 44 men who have served, but Trump is officially POTUS #45. So yes, the show will have 44 AAs in it, and still be just as boring.

Right you are, and I was just about to suggest that very post. Passport2Dreams is the very best resource for WDW commentary, as far as I'm concerned. I would highly recommend it to hardcore Disneyland fans. The blog is the very antithesis to "It's better because the castle's bigger" while showing exactly what it is about WDW that makes it special. Many thanks to @Djali999 !

Thanks! That's a lot of good info to chew on. I guess what I was trying to get at in my original post on this topic is that I think I will really enjoy my first trip to WDW and won't notice all of the issues that the WDW vets do because it's my first time and I'm not comparing it to any Golden Years that may have existed. The only caveat being, that I am a DLR vet and have that experience to compare to.

And there are indeed a lot of differences between the properties on the two coasts, but that is what makes each of these places so special and worth exploring!
They are BOTH fantastic in their own ways.
It is simply personal preference that decides which aspects one favors.

I hope you have a marvelous time exploring Walt Disney World for yourself!
Do share your thoughts when the time comes after your visit!

Is it often that people on the west coast favor WDW over DL, or is it more of a coastal turf thing?

Just got me thinking because I was mourning for those with the west coast tower. Not to mention the west coast generally gets the short end of the stick, even with Universal. I don't think 'blessing of size' has a lot to do with it.
A bugs land? Are you serious?
Please don't be mad

There are many people that would argue that it's the East coast that gets the short end, especially in the past decade.

We've had remodels and updates on our BTMRR, Space Mountain, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland- in addition to an updated Fantasmic! and Paint the Night Parade.

I've never been to WDW, and there's a lot of stuff there that's considered better than Disneyland.

And yes, I do agree that A Bugs Land is a huge joke and should be removed.
