I hope the ride is an abject failure. That might be the only thing that saves all the other classic non-IP attractions in the parks from being redone into the IP du jour.
It absolutely will not fail as it's basically the same ride, just re-themed. Fans tend to have very short memories (unless it's Superstar Limo) and end up riding it even though they "hate" it.

As one of the more vocal people here against the GOTG overlay, I should probably mention that I will continue to ride the ride formerly known as TOT and will probably do so on almost every visit. It will obviously still be one of the most fun attractions at the resort based off just the ride system alone. However, that does not mean that the experience as a whole won't be a downgrade. That does not mean that this overlay makes any sense. And that does not mean that the new building is not butt ugly.

Sometimes its easy to forget that we are a small minority of impassioned fans who wish Disney would put more thought into their presentation and infrastructure. And for every small handful of us, there are thousands of park attenders who couldn't give two rips about anything apart from "is the ride fun?" and I dare add that its those people that Disney sets firmly in their sights.

No doubt. Although I won't be riding it, but I'm sure nobody will miss me.

Yup and that's why we re here right? If we were just another one of the thousands who get excited for anything new regardless of theme or aesthetics than there wouldn't be very much to talk about. I do think it's always important to keep an open view and understand that it is a tough job that Disney has with the parks. To balance nostalgia with the constant need to stay relevant to younger audiences by offering new and modern experiences. But IMO with the Tower overlay, there really is no justification. I don't think Disney is giving the younger audiences enough credit. They love classic and vintage just as much as we do. Look how popular Dapper days are.

No doubt. It's my wife's favorite ride in DCA...top 3-4 for me so we will ride it. It will be an eyesore but I'm not playing the "boycott" card when I'm paying a significant chunk of change to walk through the gate. Boycott by not going to the park at all.

Absolutely. Folks like us on a message board devoted to Disney Parks are always going to be more critical and vocal...some at greater degrees than others. The park and experiences are marketed to average guests (and probably a high % of the AP population) and they will occasionally pay homage to us with some special Disney themed event only nerds like us will get excited about.

Get a t-shirt made up, so there are no misunderstandings when you're riding.

I agree completely and that's why I'm here. Disney has impacted too much of my life for me to just be a casual fan and not stay up-to-date on all that they do (and have opinions about it). On the other-hand, you get people at the parks who are so clueless to anything it just becomes amusing. On a recent trip someone looked over fence on the parking structure and pointed to SWL and had literally no idea what was going on. Some people choose to live in blissful ignorance, but that's not something I can do.

If this move is largely about relevance though, then Disney is putting themselves in a bit of a box. They can't sustain a model where every time they have a successful movie on their hands, they run out and create an attraction based on it. Likewise, I worry that many future attractions will now become "screenz" based and lose that bit of reality with practical sets. But that's another topic for another day...

This would be the end of Disney parks as we know them. If they handled every area of the park in the same careless and sloppy way they are doing the GOTG overlay, it would end everything that sets Disney above the rest.

And ya screens Yaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnn.

***unless they are integrated beautifully like with Shangahai's POTC**
