Personally, I think RnRC is just okay (especially after the intense launch), I have no desire to ride Top Thrill Dragster (it is a big hill), and water slides are a different story altogether.

I can go to all the great Cedar Fair Parks near me and Holiday World for my share of coasters. When I go to Disney I am looking for immersion. And while the queue will set up the ride nicely, it is hard to feel immersed when the ride is over in 60 secs.

I think this is just a matter of personal preference. I love long-form dark rides. Some people think they are boring. To each their own.
I completely agree with this. I go to Cedar Point every fall and I have Kennywood about 45 minutes away. Those parks are for thrills (and spooky Halloween trails). Disney is where I go to be blown away. I expect big coasters at Cedar Point and deep immersion at Disney. I know Cedar Fair won't make a big, immersive coaster after their failed attempt at Disaster Transport. And I don't expect Disney to make big coasters.

*I'm using "big" in very loose terms.

The overwhelming majority of people are not going to ride the Tron ride and then think "oh that's supposed to be the replacement for Space Mountain, I no longer like Space Mountain". That train of thought is so far removed from a park guests psyche that it's comical. People are going to say "hey, that ride looks fun, let's ride it." The end. Only someone deep into the Disney worldwide park planning meta discussion would even have that thought for a second.
110% agree with this

There is a place for both types of parks. I just have different expectations for the two.

Maybe no themed coaster for Cedar Point, but don't rule out a shooter dark ride in the next 2 years.

The casual guest won't care about two "similar" coasters next to each other. Why are coasters different than dark rides or boat rides? But yes I agree with others that I'd have liked the money spent differently, but I still don't mind this coming, we should be happy it's not replacing anything, they could have replaced the Speedway but they aren't. I don't agree with the Space Mountain replacement and sightline reasoning as why they shouldn't have built it. I don't think where the Buzz meet and greet and former theater were is a better option than where it's going, they're close enough to each other either way IMO (although I'm sure someone has the exact distance ...)

I think you might be selling guests a little short. I wouldn’t be surprised if many guests ride both and say “you know, those two rides were basically the same”. In fact, I’d argue a casual fan is MORE likely to feel that way than us super fans who pay more attention to theming/details.

Someone saying Tron and Space Mountain are basically the same should be treated as someone who says Its A Small World and Pirates are basically the same.....................ignored.

I agree there is, but I can't say I go to Disney for the rollercoasters.

And I hope they do something based off the classic Pirate Ride. It's only a matter of time I feel.

I don't agree but we'll see I suppose. I think some will of course draw that conclusion, sure, but most? Probably not. Many guests don't sit and ponder these things, they ride, have fun and go on with their day.

Would most be feeling this way if it weren't the Space Mountain replacement in Shanghai?

I don’t think that it replaced SM is inherently important. But I don’t think it’s insignificant that SDL is the only castle park without a SM. Clearly the intent for TRON was to provide an experience similar to SM.

Ditto. Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Kennywood, not to mention a handful of small parks, are all within easy striking distance of where I live. Plenty of thrill rides between them and then some. I am not spending mega money on WDW to ride a bunch of coasters.

There's been some hints on the other site that ride system would entail the ride vehicles drifting. Obviously just rumor, so take it with a grain of salt.

that tech is not new itself....rare yes....cars that swing freely on a pivot with the turns work on the, same principles as rotating trains....unlock for the feature relock when you don't want the movement...heck that system was in RCT3

Yet the coasters are consistently ranked highly as the most loved rides in the parks. There can be a balance as some people may like the coasters and some people come for the dark rides. It doesn't have to be an either or situation. I for one like the coasters because unlike at parks such as Cedar Point the Disney coasters aren't as intimidating to younger guests. I could never get my nephews on the Millennium Force right now but they had a blast on BTMR and Space Mountain.

Beautiful day at Epcot today.

The remainder of the maintenance bay is totally gone. They were tarping up the exposed bits when I went by.

Foundation work on the gravity building.

The exits have been covered up with tarps.

One of the front doors was open and it looks like they're running a hose to the front. Can only guess, but I'm assuming the first/queue theater is totally gone and they're cleaning up.

Other than that, the foliage is all overgrown and/or dying and there were some construction workers on the roof, but nothing seems different.

Awesome picture! I'd assume (like most other enclosed coasters that I have watched be built) the track work will go up either before or in conjunction with the framework of the building. Views like this should give us a really solid idea of the layout of the attraction! Given those should be coaster track footers there, I'd imagine some vertical construction of the track/supports in the next 2-3 months (maybe...)
