No, you saw what you saw, but zooming in and taking a picture isn't what people are seeing from WS. In the parking lot it's horrendous, I totally get it. But once you're in, on ground level and around SSE, no one is seeing it.

I took a picture of the BBB from Japan, on a clear day, and it most assuredly did not look like your picture. I posted it a long time ago to show what it actually looked like, but it's a while and I don't want to dig through 5000 posts.
I had a few minutes to go thru my historical posts. here you go.

Shhh. We have to defend and justify the cosmic eye sore no matter what.

Not defending it, just don't like to see the warping of reality by someone with a super zoom pawning it off as something that it really isn't.

Considering that you can't get to WS till 1030 anyway, no one is walking in there for breakfast, or before it's super bright out. But yes, it did stand out with clouds, but nothing more than tt does or or Soarin for that matter.

Trust me when I say that WDO has really lowered their standards on every project I've seen in the last 20 years, MINUS ROTR, so it's easy for me and others to critique them more than the non regular visitor. We take for granted what we've come to expect from Disney from our personal histories. Others that visit once twice in their lifetimes are still amazed, like it or not.

There's still passion in some of the projects, evident in FOP and Navi River, but they still fall short of the greatness that once was.

It's so confusing. If they're not doing solar panels, I don't know of any roofing solution that entails plywood on rails. So, maybe they'll be some nice dark brown 70's paneling?
If im not mistaken, the original ribs used some plywood-esque material as a base. Is it possible that they've just taken the wall composition for that siding and turned it 90°?

I'm generally with you, excepting the line "it did stand out with clouds, but nothing more than tt does or or Soarin for that matter". It TOTALLY stands out more than Test Track or Soarin' (The WoM building was at least always meant to be seen from World Showcase, whether or not you feel that's a useful sightline).

The Guardians building takes neither a Zoom lens nor a keen eye to be spotted from World Showcase. Or even Future World! It is next-level intrusive. The only building in the EPCOT skyline that takes up any comparable space is Spaceship Earth, and everything else is a distant 3rd behind Guardians. For Disney to ask guests to simply ignore something so massive instead of doing the work to theme it (or better yet, design something more genuinely hidden) is insulting.

Plywood can and is used as sheathing on exterior walls. The new M&M’s store at Disney Springs is an example. This is not really a similar application as the panels are not part of the building envelope, clearly sitting above the roof.

More likely the plywood will being used as blocking. Whether it be solar panels or something else, it will be easier to just screw it down into plywood as needed than to have specifically placed the corrugated metal decking so that every panel or whatever neatly lines up for attachment.
