That might be an over exaggeration, but regardless I understand not everyone thinks the way I do. Rat will be fine, Coco might not happen and Poppins is in flux, but let me ask, why does it always have to be an IP? Why not an original idea for an attraction. That is where I get a bit frustrated.
I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, yes, original ride attractions are always great (if executed well) and it's always wonderful to have an attraction that is truly unique. The other side of the coin is that people do genuinely enjoy things they are familiar with and have a predisposition to liking in the first place. An example I would like to put forth is the Batman: The Ride roller-coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure. When I was a kid I was so excited to ride it, not because it was a cool new ride system where your feet dangled, but because it was Batman, and I loved Batman. Is the coaster still great? Yes? Is it cooler because it's Batman, I'd say yes. Ultimately though the attractions need to be good before anything else. I recently rode Mission Space for the first time which is non-IP based. I had a good enough time with the ride, but overall wasn't too impressed. Would it be better with IP attached? No. But would it be more popular with IP, arguably yes. There's also the 3rd instance which is the newer phenomenon whereby the non-IP attraction is turned into an IP (Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise) If they were to make a Spaceship Earth movie, would the ride then technically be retconned into being an IP attraction. I think in the end, most would simply want a balance instead of everything new being 100% IP, but those are decisions for people making more money than me.

Strange that almost everyone is excited for rat, poppins and possibly coco.

Epcot is changing. I'm fine with that.
I can see both sides jt04. Yes more are more comfortable with Rat in France(as it is based in French quisine and culture) and Coco in Mexico( again based on Mexican culture) and even Mary Poppins in UK(Brave also fit) due to based on that area.

I also can see how SOME could see Frozenstrom in Norway as a fit, in that Frozen is modeled after Norwegian culture. But it is NOT really Norwegian culture, it is a fantasy Kingdom...so that is why most feel it is a better fit in MK.

That being said, I don't get expansion of MK right now. By all reports and complains MK is always over crowded, so building more draws away from MK to me makes the most sense...

So Epcot adds - GotG(yes I agree it does not fit epcot history), Rat in France, Frozenstrom in Norway, Coco in Mexico OR Poppins(or whatever is finally chosen) in UK and updates to Space, Soarin', SSE(assuming it happens) and Spine and Entrance make sense in need, just not necessarily in placement.

Same for Pandora - AK needed more, still does IMO, but Pandora was a fit due to conservation story( to some...). I am hoping the rumors of Dinoland upgrades are true, add of RoL was a help.

DHS is getting probably the biggest draw from MK in SW:GE, but still needs more, TSL is a help at best, Indy land would be a help, Mickey ride will help , but they need more to help pull from MK.

that is why I am STILL stumped on Tron to MK. Even the Theater to MK to me was weird. Adding to MK will only increase crowd and draw

Frozen wasn't released until November 2013. By this time most of NFL had already opened, and SDMT was well under construction. When they were planning this new land from scratch, there was no way anyone could have predicted that this then in development film was going such a smash hit.

Now it's a real shame that there wasn't any leftover ride space after the NFL expansion where they could have later put a Frozen attraction. You know, somewhere a former dark ride might have been that's now being wasted as a meet and greet?
Yep. Figured that. Thats Why I did this. To scale:

That’s assuming they wanted a like for like transplant and wouldn’t build something bespoke as opposed to shoehorning.

I like it too, especially since it succeeds in not feeling like an overlay. While I understand others' objections, I don't mind its placement in World Showcase. It's certainly done a lot to energise what was previously a rather unloved pavilion.

ETA: Before anyone rakes me over the coals, I realise that Maelstrom had its fans, many of them devotees. By "unloved", I'm referring to the feelings of ordinary guests, who didn't exactly go out of their way to see this attraction.

Fyi I had been to wdw 12 times before I knew maelstrom existed. Granted, I've been going to wdw since I was 5 in 1981..
When I finally rode it, I laughed it loud how bad it was. Value engineering at its best.

They are strategerizing excellently. IMO.

Has there been any evidence of any type of strategy other than raising prices and cuts?! Anywhere with anything at WDW?

Everything done recently is haphazard catching up for years of stagnation, with absolutely no coordination and overall goal.

DHS is a perfect example of what happens without a plan. @marni1971 has touched on the continuing issues with the park will continue to disrupt the park for a good deal of time past SWGE opening. So a park which should be the pinnacle of Disney Parks is going to be a continuing source of problems.

Hotels and DVC, no plan there either, just Build Build Build. Uninspired, Themeless, Generic, and Expensive, and Parking Fees

Transportation, laughable.

@jt04, I think you're optimism is commendable, but come on now...

Because Disney characters is what 98.85% of what guest's want.
Disney characters get people in the door, but it's not necessarily what people want. We're simple minded and we gravitate towards what we know. We gravitate towards characters from a movie we've experienced over something created from whole cloth. The bar is lowered as long as you get to see the character or some familiar element from the movie.

An attraction created out of whole cloth often has reduced or no expectations from the guest and that typically affects their opinion of it in a more positive way.

You know if you moved "it's a small world" you'd open up a lot of room...
