How does it undermine my point? I made no claims one way or the other; on the contrary, I began my response saying that lazyboy97o may or may not be correct. I can't be blamed for the fact that such figures aren't available before 1993.

Or they are, and your not possessing them doesn't mean they can't be possessed. Still waiting on that whole public opinion thing...

What you describe is what happens attractions are ran long past their need for an update.

Future world's problem has always been lack of timely refreshes to keep them relevant and not looking like dinosaurs with dated tech and content

Spaceship Earth has been refreshed several times and still feels super old-fashioned. I'm glad this is the case, because I personally love the '80s vibe of the attraction, but such rides are, by nature, of a different era. Some become classics and survive, and others lose popularity to the extent that Disney is prepared to scrap them. Ellen's Energy Adventure was a brave attempt to drastically update a ponderous attraction, but it never felt modern to me (even when I first went on it in 1996).

Why, thank you. I always appreciate it when people want to shore up what I already know. Makes me feel all speshul'n'stuff. I do love individualized service.

You made a claim that Disney was bowing to popular opinion. You have not backed it up. As you may already know, people on these boards do have the attendance data you seem to lack, and they can back up that EPCOT Center was more popular than Epcot. Because you made the claims regarding popularity, backing them up is in your court. Not mine.

As you may already know.

"As you may already know" was my way of signalling that I wasn't presuming to teach you anything new. It was a sincere way of *not* being patronising, and I apologise if it came across otherwise.

I Googled the attendance data and presented what I found: no more, no less. I don't claim to be an expert or an insider. I'm merely stating my opinions on an opinions board.

I'm not here to fight with anyone.

I just discovered this site's search function and found the relevant posts from marni1971, who does indeed tell us that 1987 was the peak year. It's interesting to me that the park began to lose popularity relatively soon thereafter, and I wonder when the numbers will return to their early peak.
I believe the numbers actually got close to that for 2017. But apparently, 2018 is looking like it'll be a miss based off of what has been seen at this point.

Did Disney decide that edutainment was dead, or did park-goers vote with their feet? I rode Ellen's Energy Adventure during spring break 2017, not long before its demise. Although it was a busy time, the theatre had only a handful of people in it, and the CM (clearly on the basis of previous guest reactions) warned us all that this was our last chance to leave if we couldn't sit through the 40-minute show.

Videos of Horizons and Body Wars also show the rides without guests in their final days.

I understand the nostalgia and share some of it, but Disney can't be blamed for responding to what their customers want (or don't).
Sure we can blame Disney. When you leave a ride unchanged until it’s irrelivencey, it’s easy to claim it isn’t popular anymore. That’s all on Disney. It’s going on right now ov Imagination.

Here today at epcot... and man this building looks huge. Stands out all over. Its going to be super high profile. Look at its size all the way from the opposite side of WS. This one cant be just painted 'go away' colors...

Thats right... taller than WoM... secon to just SSE in that view

that is the view that bothers me the most, Disney is becoming no different than Universal or other parks etc doing things like this, when they use to be masters at design and implementation. But now thanks to chapek and others throw everything everywhere you can no matter if it fits or not.

Or you know we could wait until construction is finished before we loose all collective knowledge and reasoning....

Sorry I couldn't finish saying that without laughing!

"Look! they are constructing a building, it's just like Universal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Imagination became unpopular *after* they changed it (badly). It's unpopular because it's a rubbish ride, not because it hasn't been updated
I was going to say that, but got lazy. Net net, it’s still on Disney for half asking a redo. It’s like they planned the failing of Epcot’s theme all along.

Look, the solution is simple. Disney just needs to build a slightly larger warehouse in front of the GoG building to hide it. Or they could drape a blanket over it.

And don’t go dragging Uni into this - this is a lot worse then anything Uni’s done in over a decade. Yes, Tranformers is a big box, but it’s a big box perfectly themed to its contents. And the FJ building, while too visible, is better hidden then this. Uni can certainly screw up badly in other ways (FnF), but they’ve gotten a whole lot better about hiding ride structures at the same time WDW has gotten a whole lot worse.

Was at California Grill last night for dinner and snapped a photo of a rainbow over Epcot.

What I noticed but cannot be seen is a blinking light on what appeared to be the gravity building. On hindsight, maybe it was one of the cranes? I didn’t think it was high enough to warrant a light.

Based on one unfinished example?
GoG looms enough that it’s going to need some ToT-level theming, and even then it would make the skyline very unbalanced. Was the land unsuitable to build a significant portion beneath ground level?

I was also thinking of the blocky, barely themed DVC structures (GF) and hotels (CS, Riviera) we’ve been seeing. But you are correct - those should count as a different thing, and until Avatar WDW hadn’t built a major attraction in so long there isn’t enough evidence to make such a sweeping generalization.

If we can see the Test Track building like we can from this location, I don't really get why a decent looking GotD building is going to ruin anything.

Building below ground level is generally not an option in central Florida.

I agree on those hotel structures.
