I was at Epcot on Saturday and a cast member told me on the tram that the Guardians of the Galaxy ride would open next summer or maybe be pushed back to summer 2019(because of DHS's construction). Is this true? I kind of doubt it. If it's not true, what is the expected timeframe of the opening date?
Was it a bus driver who told you that?

@marni1971 was a Kuka Arm ride proposed for the GOTG ride (it would have been better than a roller coaster) at some point, or was the proposal always a roller coaster (the fact that you're not excited about this, maked me think that the ride system won't be as impressive as originally speculated, a SFX Coaster sounded interesting...)?

P.S. I hope you keep enjoying your stay at WDW, I'm anxious to read your review of Pandora :joyfull:

I'm not aware of any Kuka plans for this.

Corless is reporting that Melissa Vallaincort (Epcot VP) confirmed that this will be a coaster. Not that it's a surprise but nice to have the confirmation.

Eh, it's nice to have it official I guess, but we've long had it reliably confirmed here. I think the better question is what kind of coaster and/or what the premise of the ride is. I'm disappointed that it doesn't seem like they are doing a hybrid coaster/dark ride since this IP really would lend itself to it -- like the way the show scenes in Mission Breakout punctuate the drops.

So we know about the Vekoma flyer prototype that is most likely going to Phantasialand in Germany. I don't think they've been testing anything new recently, unless they've been keeping under tight wraps on top of Disney's long running history with them too. B&M (typically don't do "smaller/compact rides) and Intamin (besides...Disney maintaining an Intamin...no offense and not knocking Disneys maintenance, but that'd be a mess) don't have anything ground breaking currently. Or maybe...S&S Sansei?

The only company that comes to mind is RMC which I think would be a stretch. They're building the new steel, inline seating coasters for Six Flags and CGA. The only thing RMC has left is the T-Rex concept which is just the Raptor but with larger track and cars BUT with some weird mid-course forward/reverse launch section possibilities.

Then again, Disney is building a Mack coaster too (Slinky). Maybe we should be on the lookout for a manufacturer showing off a new concept at conventions like IAAPA that is going to a "undisclosed customer very soon".

tl;dr: Who knows until the insiders drop some more hints about the ride system.

That’s all based on the assumption that it is something new and never before seen. Slinky Dog Dash and TRON Light Cycle Power Run aren’t new systems.

Exactly. According to the MaStEr cOnFiRmEr himself, it's a "first of it's kind ride system". I think everyone knows Slinky and bike coaster #6(?) are no where near unique. I was basing my post off it being 100% unique.

The one positive thing I can say about this is.....at least they aren't going full-Horizons on the building.

I'm pretty sure pitchforks and torches would have been distributed if that had happened again.
