I hope they're able to maintain the energy theme within the storyline. Maybe the pre-show could be about how the Guardians have crash landed on Starlord's home planet and need new fuel/resources to get back out of the atmosphere. Rocket is doing research and experimenting with the different types of energy on Earth trying to figure out the best way to propel a spacecraft with what is available. Then we are selected as test pilots and loaded into the vehicle to see how their new ship works.
Not a love letter to Classic Epcot, but better than some alternatives.

Also there's a limit to how many construction workers, imagineers, etc. can be used for the projects at the same time as well.
That is not a real issue. Disney has done a great job of cultivating this image of a small team that is very hands on with near everything, and that just isn’t true. Walt Disney Imagineering is a sizable organization, has many contracted partners and does a lot of project-based hiring. Disney has a manpower problem but it is one of too many people, not enough.

I'm all for this. I could live with this. The least Disney could do is give us something like this and not just a "carving of the Nautilus in a rock". (Yes that is as a euphemism for a crappy tribute.) This way they could easily win over us diehard EC fans while still giving the current gen something they really want to come and see.

That said, has any one seen any steady flow of dinosaurs and moving theaters making their way down Overpass Rd?

There is a possible EPCOT tie-in with GotG...the infinity stones. The six are: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, and Power. Further along in the movies, only one or two will be remaining (if they continue following the comic stories), but for now (at least as far as the movies are concerned), they all still exist. So, maybe the space stone is in play here, or maybe power or time...we really just have to wait and see if they choose this angle.

Considering our insiders have been dropping the name "Infinite Universe" for this ride, I'm pretty sure one or more Infinity Gems/Stones will be involved.

In Guardians of the Galaxy, The Collector describes the way the Stones were formed as a "singularity." Singularity makes me think black hole which makes me think gravity and dark matter and all sorts of other fun space stuff to theme a soft educational ride around. There's a ton of potential here.

It’s a roller coaster tho.

There’s only so much “education” you can fit.

Assuming they’re even going in that direction.

Well, if they do, the education will be in the preshows. We get a lot of information about Pandoran ecosystem and a pro-ecology lesson in the FoP pre-shows.
And let's be honest, nobody ever learns anything from the ride itself. Even UoE, which seems to be most fondly remembered as "nap time" to most. The queue can be a great primer of the basic information about certain concepts, however, while the ride itself can offer a cursory application of those concepts. Even if it only gets 1 out of 5 kids who ride interested in the educational foundations of the ride, it's a win.

The plan is to educate guests on how Thanos procured the Infinity Stones in the late 1970s and changed the future by pushing the model for World Showcase into the Future World model. He literally made Epcot. Peter Quill enjoyed Epcot as a boy but returns with the Guardians of the Galaxy (and actors like Robert Downey, Jr., Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Holland definitely playing themselves and not Marvel superheroes) to reclaim the Infinity Stones and rebuild Epcot to their pleasing. They prefer fast cars, flying, and rats so we will see what happens.

I'm 40% sure this isn't true.
