Regardless of the material, they're not using 'cut outs'. No insider ever said that was happening. Someone without any insider knowledge in a nerd-rage mentioned it to be likely and others picked up on it as if that was the case.
Did an insider say it wasn't happening? Regardless, the trend lately for Disney leadership and imagineers (Save for the one animatronic in Pandora) has been the "least cost option". In my mind that means low budget theming and video screens. Disney is still on a slide to be equal with Universal. GotG is going to be no different. Low budget theming with a roller coaster. Look at Slinky, I don't ever recall seeing extensive track visible like that ride is going to be. It looks like a ride from Six Flags. The same goes for Tron, just low budget theming, all of it. SDMT seems to have been the last great well themed roller coaster with elements of an omnimover ride baked in.

No insider has said that they weren't going to use live mice to power the coaster, so, shall we put that on the table as a possibility?

I like how everyone can ding Disney for paying way more than necessary for a ride or land, and, at the same time, claim they're not spending enough.

So, when you cherry pick projects, you can certainly make a case for a lack of extensive theming. But you need to include other projects, too, for the big picture. I found the theming for Pandora and Mission Breakout to be quite extensive (regardless of how one likes or dislikes the looks of the outside of MB, it's extensive). The model for SWGE is mind-blowingly extensive. The credible insiders have lauded what will be the three new E-Tickets in DHS (regardless of the pain of closing down a beloved attraction to make that happen).

I believe people have picked up on that from Martin saying that the coaster portion wouldn't be much more elaborate than RnRC.

You make a fair point and you are right, I should be including everything. I guess what I am saying is that back when Walt started the parks, there wasn't anything he wanted to skimp on. It has always seemed like that was the case right up into the mid to late 90's. But now it feels like some get the attention, while others do not. Unfortunately, I feel like MB is more of a facade, which in this case is probably relatively cheap to do. The ride was there, all they had to do was put in the theming elements. SDMT didn't have the ride in place, and they did a fantastic job at theming and ride integration into the theme. I feel like Slinky is not a Disney effort, but I will refrain from full judgement until I see it. I feel like Slicky's lack of theming is at a cost to support SWGE. Overall, I feel like the same full tilt, detail focused effort is not put into every single ride like it was in the old days. I would bet that GoTG will be a ride in the dark with a bunch of video screens a la Tron Lightsycles. (Not to mention that it lazily brakes from the overall theme of Epcot because I feel like it is to hard for the imagineers to come up with something unique and new for the Energy Pavilion)

Yeah, I keep waiting to get used to this idea and start to see some positive in it, but I still can't. I wasn't a big fan of the Frozen change, but this seems just.....particularly bad. Like, with Frozen and Ratatouille and Coco in the WS you could still imagine Epcot staying sort of Epcot-ish, but I don't see where you go after this. What *is* Epcot after this change?
