That is because Bill Nye has an undergraduate degree in Engineering and the "Science Guy" thing is a bit he does as a performer......he is basically a 1980's wrestling character but without a great promo. Bill Nye the Hollywood Guy

Hey, I don't begrudge anyone for promoting cool facts. Michael Stevens on VSauce is no scientist, but that doesn't invalidate what he shares. Mr. Wizard wasn't an actual wizard either. I just find MST3K more entertaining than Bill Nye, and I thought I'd be a smart aleck.

I didn't like Bill Nye's new show either :(
It made me sad. I loved his show as a kid. It made me like science.

It irritates me that CNN will continue having him on as a "scientist" instead of having actual scientists on staff to discuss major issues. There are actual climate-change scientists available, you know? They are going to have access to more facts and will hold a better understanding of the nuance of a given field. Nye gives the impression of being someone who has viewed the Wikipedia page and is therefore qualified to lecture on it. BS.

He just worked better 20 years ago breaking things down for 12-year olds. His style led to the development of a new generation of science teachers who are just as adept at connecting with young scholars to help them grapple with extremely complex issues. Perhaps we no longer need Bill Nye.

End rant.

Sadly not at this time.

(Post being replied to above regarding keeping the ride system and overhauling the rest of the attraction...)

Is it possible that, in all the convolutions this plan seems to be going through, that the budgetary hammer comes down on the installation of a new ride system, and the moving theater doesn't get yanked?

I'm sure it's possible, but I guess I'm wondering if it could end up being likely. I feel kind of blind to the situation by asking, though.

+1

I'm with you on all of this. His new show really disappointed me because I loved his show when I was younger.

But certain IPs CAN fit the brand of original Epcot Center. Not sure why IP is suddenly a dirty word and not everything IP is bad or needs to be viewed bad... it's just in how the implement them (and they've done a poor job so far; Nemo could have been a lot better, for example and been a bit more educational without the "Where's Nemo" on repeat). Do they NEED them? No. But I'm willing to meet in t
It's possible that they have decided that Energy will get something new, but maybe they haven't decided what so this permit is just in preparation for something. It's not unusual for permits to be vague on details, but this one is exceptionally vague with numerous phrases like "possible future changes". This leads me to believe this permit was filed without them knowing exactly what they plan to build there.

How long does the permit hold, or does it stay open until a formal closing process?

Merchandise? Capitalizing on a brand they continue to expand via movies, video games, etc.

.. and being relatable to people. No joke, on our last trip we overheard a family recalling their day at dinner and the eldest daughter said, "I didn't like EPCOT. I just graduated college, so I' done learn'n."

:banghead:

That's one quote in one instant in time, but it makes me wonder if the public's preference prefers it to be more entertainment than edutainment - and that's sad.
I predict a bright future for that one. (sarcasm)

Considering the IP options that seem to be on the table, I think Tron would be a better fit in Epcot and Guardians in Tomorrowland.

Tron is about tecnhnology, so you can kinda relate it to Epcot.
While Guardians is about space and aliens, which is basically the theme of MK's tomorrowland.

I'm fine with Tomorrowland being sacrificed as the place to put aliens, sci-fi, and toon stuff since (until now) Future World at least somewhat kept its futuristic ideals.

Yes, I'd LOVE to know what a non GoTG attraction would be like.

It would focus on renewable energy: wind, hydroelectric, solar. Your car would seem to fly through a field of wind turbines. You dive into a dam and go through the route the water takes and out through the dynamos and into the electrical grid into solid-state batteries.

And then throw in a lot of dinosaurs.

How upset or pleased would you guys be if some or all of the dinosaur animatronics were converted to look like some kind(s) of alien(s) for the new area? How about if they converted some or all of them to look like some kind of mechanical equipment for something like mining on the Knowhere planet or some other planet?

Clearly like the other goon, you haven't seen his new show on Netflix. He does literally a whole song and dance about how their are more than two genders. It's literally a cringe fest. And as much as I'd like to argue with you about SJW, unfortunately the site says WDW Magic not SJW Magic.

Quick word of advice to a younger poster: you're not going to have a very good time...well, just about anywhere in life with this kind of schtick.

No, I haven't watched Bill Nye's new show, but I'm afraid you're confusing sex with gender, which are two different concepts. Best to let things lie when you're not well-read on a topic, which, sadly, perhaps Nye should do as well, if his new show isn't very good. Hope you take opportunities to check out academic material on new subjects rather than retreating into a strange "us vs. them" mentality that makes "social justice" into a dirty word for some reason; there's a big world out there, and placing everything into an antagonistic dichotomy will limit how much of it one gets to fully experience.

On the larger point, no, Nye still isn't much of a problem; lots of TV science personalities haven't been actual scientists, but they've helped reach younger minds and point them toward new fields of study by using basic facts, which is a worthwhile thing to do. Again, if the new show isn't any good, that's too bad; guess it's another argument for a Universe of Energy that doesn't over-rely on pop cultural figures, hence putting an expiration date on it as an attraction.

As for the updates themselves, strange to imagine a new show building being up while the old one, which is pretty sizable already (though obviously not for a roller coaster) remains. I suppose that's interesting, though a bit perplexing.
