There's a possibility. How high it is I don't know.
New attraction by 2024? I know I hate being this far behind and understand this may be answered numerous times over the past 20 plus pages, but if the question is another E-Ticket for Epcot by 2024, in addition to GOTG, I will say the possibility is pretty strong. Not a "bet your life" on it strong, but a possible "bet your dogs life" on it and trust me, I am a pet person. . .

Somewhere in Epcot? I'd say almost definitely.

The majority can be just as easily pleased with any brand new quality offering that's fitting of the park. The problem rests in the fact that the park was so butchered and left to stagnate over the years that Disney feels like IP is the only way out and it most certainly is not. Journey into Imagination could be an incredible family attraction that also stays in tune with the park. I honestly wish that Frozen's budget was used for that instead.

It's been stated before I imagine, but this perspective from management is just SO BIZARRE. When you think of what rides define the Magic Kingdom, You think of the 3 mountains, Haunted Mansion, iasw, PoTC, Jungle Cruise, and what, Peter Pan's Flight? When you think of Animal Kingdom, you think of Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Festival of the Lion King. The third gate has always been defined by the Great Movie Ride and the Tower of Terror. When you think of Epcot, the first decade was headlined by The American Adventure, Spaceship Earth, Horizons, and Journey into Imagination. Now it's defined by Soarin and Test Track instead of Horizons and Journey, but this truth remains: with 2 exceptions in this entire list, the headline attractions for the parks are all IPs created by WED/WDI or park "defined" in that the strength in consciousness of the IP comes from the attraction, not its original work.

And now you are going to have families that say, "Wanna go to Epcot?" and the answer will be, "Yes! They have that Frozen ride!" :banghead:

Soarin' has been great since the capacity boost. I waited only 10 mins before the split to the concourse the other day (which FP has to wait in anyway).
And when the wait is longer and you're waiting out in that main long tunnel, dare I say I think waiting there is actually fun. Maybe there was just some good groups of people around me in line, but the whole area felt very exciting with everyone enjoying the game with friendly competition, we were meeting new people, and it was just overall a very alive and fun atmosphere.

Yes, the updated Soarin' game (played through a website) was actually pretty fun and informative. I actually learned a lot about different areas of the world.

OK, while a few people in this thread may know the actual Guardians storyline for the attraction, I'm interested in how to make Epcot actually work. The originally concept of Epcot isn't happening. We're not going to see exclusively educational attractions. Not to say that Epcot wasn't also about entertainment at the outset, but in never had the intellectual property tie ins with their attractions. As a point of reference, here's the dedication plaque for EPCOT Center:

Epcot

To all who come to this Place of Joy, Hope and Friendship

Welcome

Epcot is inspired by Walt Disney's creative vision. Here, human achievements are celebrated through imagination, wonders of enterprise and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all.

May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire and above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere.

E. Cardon Walker
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Walt Disney Productions
October 24, 1982

So there are a few options here:
  1. To hell with theme and cohesion. We no longer need to inform, inspire or instill a sense of belief in our ability to shape the world. Entertainment was listed first for a reason, all else be damned.
  2. Establish a unifying direction for the park that better explains the use of intellectual property based attractions.
I would expect #1 is more likely and they will go about this piecemeal. Guardians in Future World, Coco and Ratatouille in World Showcase. Big Hero 6 in Innoventions, any of that is possible.

So the question then becomes, how to make a Guardians attraction work. It's Space themed, so perhaps Future World East is all about Sci-fi Space stuff, not sure where Test Track fits in there, but whatever. Part of the problem is that Disney World has both a Tomorrowland and a Future World and the lines of what fits where have been blurred. Is Tomorrowland supposed to be grounded more in animated fantasy? Do things like Space Mountain and Carousel of Progress better fit Future World's reality that is/was grounded in science and reality? Personally, that's the line that I would draw. Make Tomorrowland about futuristic movies and Future World should continue to be grounded in Epcot's dedication plaque, "entertain, inform and inspire and above all, may it install a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere."

I'll preface this by saying, Ellen's Energy Adventure needs to be replaced. Having said that, from a strictly thematic standpoint, I would rather see Space Mountain replaced with a Guardians attraction than Ellen's Energy Adventure. Since I like to relocate attraction out of Magic Kingdom and into Epcot, allow me to be the first one to suggest a brand new Space Mountain, built from the ground up on the UoE footprint. The coaster needs to be rebuilt anyway and probably needs to be done before the 50th. Why not do this correctly?

The last alternative here would be something super meta. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to say that Peter Quill could have been a fan of EPCOT Center as a kid. He was taken from Earth in 1988, I would totally buy an attraction that is self referential to the original Universe of Energy, perhaps involves some sort of time travel and includes Peter Quill traveling back to Earth looking for what he remembered from Epcot as a child.

From what I have seen, the ride-through looks better, the effects look better, the AAs looks better, the music is decent...even the story is better. I will reserve my full judgement however until I get a chance to experience it for myself rather than looking at a video
because its newer, if they had refurbished maelstrom it might look way better now.

The Internet killed the original innovations idea of showing off new and cool technology. It was one place you could see it all together. Now within 5 minutes of something being released its all over the Internet, so anything at Epcot would be dated before the attractions are even finished.

As to world show case anyone can go and visit the real country. I've never paid much attention to France, Germany, Norway or the US and UK as I've been to all off them and there is nothing in them I haven't seen in person. I know lots of people who feel the same way. It was probably different when people never used to travel much. Times change, always will always have, which to some is the problem....

I've not seen a floating city nor a colony in space yet. Nor a Seabase. Nor a Dream Machine. Nor a body probe...

Assuming you have the money.

I've been to France many times. I go to the France pavilion every trip.

I am serious to the fact that Crossover in the MCU has been discussed between the two Franchises fighting a similar enemy and potential for cameo....

Speculation that Strange as a character could be used in Epcot when we discuss the issue of Time and Science...

No Strange for Epcot I'm sure his picture is already used on signage at Universal.

I think it should be said (again, for the millionth time), that most of us who are against the IP invasion of Epcot are in no way desiring that Epcot return to its original concept or that WS should remain a museum and never have anything new.

People continue to regurgitate the same tired "Epcot purists" BS and the old "Disney glory days are gone" garbage. We just feel that there are so many possibilities that could be explored that dont require super heroes and cartoons EVERYWHERE. We feel that it would be more wise to BUILD something new and not just continue to overlay attractions. We ask for Disney to simply create and inspire rather than pander and accommodate.

As a kid visiting Epcot, Sea Base Alpha, Horizions and the whole SSE Innoventions/Communicore center of the park blew my mind. I thought it all was just too cool, but I was a nerd and a sci-fi fan growing up..

Pandering is exactly the right word, and reflects what an insult it is to install GotG in Epcot without regard for established theme, and how contrived the attraction will be since it doesn't really fit to begin with.

Nicely put. It's an insult not only to Epcot's established theme, but also to the hard work folks at WED/WDI put in to designing and building EPCOT Center, as well as folks like us who carry the old Epcot in a high regard. I'm till excited to see what will happen to Energy although the innovative moving theaters will be sorely missed. I just wish it could get a proper overhaul without a forced IP tie-in.

Yes. It also assumes that the avg guest does not notice or care about thematic design and will just think 'ooh, shiny new ride!'.
I do hold theme parks in high regard (just like I appreciate animation as an art form). I have hope for today's generation - the popularity of video games creates interest in design, they are accustomed to experiencing themed worlds and know when something is 'off' or inconsistent aesthetically. In that regard, cohesive theme might actually matter more than it used to, and WDI really has to get it right.
