Growing Concern I have about Guests and WDW

I'm not trying to "add fuel to the fire" or am I negative person and "down on the world" BUT rude behavior based on a "me first attitude" is everywhere today just not in WDW.

Watch people shopping at your local mall, go to a school event or sporting event, see people's attitudes in the work place, and watch the way people behave on the roads with their vehicles. Manners and a general concern and well-being for our fellow man(and woman) is rapidly disappearing.

I don't like it, I don't condone it, BUT I've learned to live with it! Just my two cents.

It's Mr. Rogers fault for telling everyone that they are "Special"

It doesn't excuse the guy who threatened to beat me up and got in my face at Electric Umbrella, the woman who literally shoved me out of the way to push past a wheelchair party at Grand Fiesta, nor the CM who was a complete jerk to me just the other day, but i do moreso understand.

I'm going to start saying "Cover me - I'm going in." before I go on rides.

It depends on how many people wait outside. One person waiting in line while several wait outside and later jump in, thats rude.

I was specifically talking about a family (2 adults - 2 or 3 small children)
Not tour groups - I would consider that rude. One or two people waiting for 10,20 or 50 people.

After going in October the past three years in a row, circumstances this year forced us to go during the week of Memorial Day. Never again. There was just rudeness right and left, most likely because of the heat and the crowds.

It was obvious from our first attraction of the week, when we saw a mother forcefully shove her daughter backwards several times into other guests and their children. Then there was the group of kids who cut in front of us at Pirates and told us a cast member instructed them to do it. (I made them get behind us.) The mother in the standby line at Splash Mountain hissing at the fastpass people going by. The tour group of twenty pre-teen girls and no chaperone at Big Thunder Mountain. The families who don't have any children under ten but rent two strollers just to wheel around the dozen bags they for some reason needed to bring into the park.

I agree that if you focus on these people, it will only ruin your vacation, not theirs. But it's hard NOT to focus on them, when they're surrounding you with their idiocy. So it's back to the off-season for us. If I don't see WDW in June ever again, I'll be a happy man.

OK - I have a question.

Is it rude when a few members of your party (say dad and an older child) get in line, while say mom and two younger children (say 4 and 2) wait in a less confining area, maybe go to the restroom and then join the members of your party farther up the line? I have seen (read) this being suggested in numerous travel books. I personally do not mind, especially if they are apologetic or polite about getting back in line with their family. I just wanted to know what others thought of this.

Personally, we don't do this. We all stay together but my children are older now,6,9,&14. There was only one time on our last vacation that we kind of took advantage of this and it was at MGM. My son was to short to ride Rock n Roller coaster so he and my husband waited in line to meet Mickey at the hat. The line was forever long. Anyway, we had our fast pass and went to the ride and got back just in time to meet Mickey. I felt so guilty getting in line but we were very quick with the picture and no one around us seemed to mind. Was this wrong?

I would have to say that I run into far more rude guests than CM's, but you do occasionally run into someone having a horrible day.

I just cannot ever believe how rude some people can be...

..and I think meeting people already in line should not be allowed. If you have to do the kid swap, that's one thing, but I just don't agree with simply meeting people.

It's like I told the checkout girl at our local supermarket who had an attitude with the customers ahead of me and acted like she wanted to be anywhere else but there working. I smiled at her and said in my nicest, caring voice, "Smile and enjoy yourself. At least you have a job!";)

What amazes me the most is the number of people who seem to believe that rules don't apply to them.

On my most recent trip, just a few weeks ago, my family and I took our spot for Illuminations in the seating area next to the Rose & Crown. The lower section of the area was closed off for a special event, so we stood behind the rope. A few minutes into the show, a woman pretty much dragged a young boy in front of us and ducked under the rope. She was telling the boy to follow, but he knew it was wrong and refused, so the woman walked down to the lagoon by herself. Another woman then came along and stood with the boy, completely blocking my mum's view. My mum mentioned it and the woman replied that she was going to go under the rope. We told her that she wasn't allowed, meaning she stood in front of us for the rest of the show. A few minutes later we saw the first woman being escorted out of the area by a CM.

Similarly, on Christmas day a lady kept sitting on the wrong side of the tape on the ground during the parade. CMs told her on more than 1 occasion to stay behind the tape, for her own safety, but each time she would move away slightly, and eventually back again. She ended up getting shouted at by various guests for not doing as she was told and finally left. She was probably sick of people being so rude to her :hammer:

I just can't believe how some people can think that they're special enough to not follow a rule that everyone else has to, even if it is for their safety.
