gross ? about how clean pop century is

sorry about this ? in advance but i was wondering if anyone who works in the disney hotels or is a disney veteren can answer. my kids just got back from a vacation ( not to disney)with there father and his parents and caught lice from the hotel they stayed in. geting rid of them was a nightmare now i am afraid to go stay in hotels i have a vacation planed in march of 2006 to disney. has anyone ever heard of disney having this problem and how often do they wash the pillows and beding? the idea of it freaks me out. the storys i have heard about some hotels since then has been really scary.
so what do you all think is disney dirty? do i have anything to worry about? this is something i never want to go threw agian

Mousekeeping is really good about changing everything in the room, including bedspreads, as long as you request it. I have severe allergies and immune system deficiencies so I am extremely cautious of comming in contact with other peoples germs...therefore I always ask for my bedspreads and other linens not usually changed between guests to be changed as soon as I arrive. I have never encountered any difficulty with this request and they often are able to do it very promptly. In my overall opinion, Disney (especially in the resorts) is not only the happiest places on Earth, it is also one of the cleanest. I have never come home from WDW any sicker than I went there (with the exception of an unfortunate Mexico Pavillion burrito food poisoning incident:hurl: many years ago) and look foward to knowing I have little to worry about re:cleanliness in WDW.

Ewwww. You would think they'd change the bed spread and blankets. That's nasty if they really don't. I think from now on I'll be requesting fresh ones. Do you just call the front desk? I'd feel less strange about it if I just spilled something on them all and had an excuse to ask for new ones lol. :lol:

nits/lice live in clean hair. every child gets them and they are spread through heat. in england the time that most children get them is october-november just after the children have gone back to school. a way of presenting them is to dye your hair this can be done by having highlights or streaks through your hair and putting your hair up into a bun or something so there are no loose strands. they are gross but everyone in there lifetime gets them its a part of life. dont touch anyones hair while they've got them for example platting/braiding someones hair.

if a child has got them everything like pillows and linen and stuff should be washed thouroughly or as a last resort be thrown away.

i think my story can top anyones while driving to disney one year we stopped halfway at a Days inn off of 95 i did not want the days inn but all other hotels in the aream were booked solid, so we had to go there. So we all took our showers and shut the light and we were goin to bed i started to itch and everyone in my fam did FLEES ALL OVER THE PLACE omg horrible we ran outta the room there were no other rooms available we had to share with anonther family we were driving with

How do you know they got it from the bed linens? When in Disney, kids try on all the fun hats, Mickey Ears, the works....it could have been passed on through that. Or, in any of the theaters, it could have been passed through the backs of the uphulstered seats, seats on the bus, etc, etc.
I'm just saying you never know.

That's very true, and probably more likely, since those things are not as clean as the pillows are.

they were fine before the vacation and the itching started the third day of vacation also there doctor said they would feel itching within 24 hours.
and they came home with them

Maybe I didnt make myself clear.....so your family stayed in a sterile environment the whole trip except for the time they stayed in the hotel room?

Let me get to my point. You have stayed in a Disney Resort before, obviously by your signature. If you had not had problems before and had not heard about it in the media, cause if Disney had a problem with lice, it would be in the media, why would you ask that kind of question? I personaly would have kept the little fact that my family got lice private....

How many people are going to start asking for their sheets, spreads, etc. to be changed now, even though they would have never thought of it before reading this thread? It would be like eating a new unknown dish for dinner and thinking it was delicious until you found out it was something unusual like bull testicles or monkey brains. Personally I've never had a bad experience with bedding at any hotel, I definitely don't go looking for any little stains that may have been left, and I don't plan on becoming overly cautious about it after reading housekeeping SOPs.

i totally agree with you! im just gonna do what i usually do and if there is something wrong they will be told about it and it will be fixed.

They don't like to be on clothing, sheets, etc. Even brushes and combs. They can jump really far though and so if you are in an enclosed space (elevator, bus, etc) with someone infected you can get them too.

I wouldn't worry about Disney hotel cleanliness. I have stayed many times and never had any problems. Their reputation is one of the things that keeps people coming back, and if there started to be negative reports you'd hear about it in the media.

you said they wash the bedding every third day does that mean they will wash them between guests and then every third day or just every third day period?

I'm from Mass and never heard of this place do you know where it is so that I can avoid it?

I was just thinking the same thing LOL. I've been staying in hotels my whole life and it never hurt me before. I'll just make sure I only touch the sheets lol

So I'm sharing a bedspread with every other guest who slept in the same bed for the last 1-2 months???! I'm sure some couples do "stuff" on top of the bedspread, that's kind of sickening. Maybe I'm understanding wrong.

I would not like on a beadspread at a hotel. We pull them off the foot of the bed at night. :hurl:

Sorry, but i am i Disney veteran and i have stayed in all hotels on property besides the polynesian,floridian, and the swan and dolphin, and they are always really clean, i dont know what to say about that......

You can buy some spray stuff to spray on kids' hair (or your hair) that will repel lice. After a bout with post-summer-camp lice, I always sent it off to camp with them afterwards. I tried to find it to give you the name, but must still be packed away in someone's bag. I think it was something like "Lice-Away" or "Lice-Ex". We got it at the corner pharmacy over the counter.

BTW, you can also get Ivy Block to prevent poison ivy. (off topic, but always trying to be helpful )

The OP said the lice did NOT come from a Disney vacation. But I agree, trading hats with other kids, trying out brushes in a store, leaning back on the seat at the movies or in a rental car, etc etc. There are LOTS of ways to get lice - it was likely not the hotel, unless hubby had them too.
