My daughter got lice in the first month of Kindergarten. It took me months to get rid of it. She kept getting reinfected by someone in her class. She had beautiful long blond ringlets. I was so not happy. I had to cut her hair off to get rid of them. I'm telling you this because after awile the adult lice get used to the shampoo and it can start to affect kids too. I did some internet surfing and found an easier way that won't harm your child but you can get the nits and adults very easy. Use regular hair conditioner and your nit comb. You can not even imagine how good it works. She hasn't had them since and she is 8 now, but I still check about once a week.

We have never caught anything from the linens and things. Thank goodness! It's too warm to sleep with the bedspread anyway. :)

nits/lice live in clean hair. every child gets them and they are spread through heat. in england the time that most children get them is october-november just after the children have gone back to school. a way of presenting them is to dye your hair this can be done by having highlights or streaks through your hair and putting your hair up into a bun or something so there are no loose strands. they are gross but everyone in there lifetime gets them its a part of life. dont touch anyones hair while they've got them for example platting/braiding someones hair.

if a child has got them everything like pillows and linen and stuff should be washed thouroughly or as a last resort be thrown away.

Everyone gets them? :lookaroun

Ummm where are you getting your information? lol At 50+ neither of my parents have ever had lice and at 21 I've never had lice. Are we the lucky exceptions?

Probably.

I think as long as people go on vacations and such, they are taking risks. It is highly unlikely that anything will happen, but..........There's always a chance. Personally, I'm just not going to go through life worrying about things that I really can't control. Sure they may change the sheets, bedspreads, blankets....but what about that chair in the corner? or the couch? etc.? If I worried about all of this, I don't think I would enjoy the vacation very much.:)

Nah, most people I know have never had them. Aside from my Girl Scout troop I only had one other friend who got 'em, and even when I had them my whole family remained safe. They used to send the school nurse around the classrooms to check heads... like a monkey.

Yeah I don't know many people who had lice either. I got it in 5th grade...all the popular girls had lice and I caught it from them! I'm sure they got it from sharing brushes and having slumber parties or whatever popular girls do.

i should of put MOST people experience them in their lifetime.
i work with children and round about october- november the lice/nit letters go out to parents saying "this is round about the time of year that nits/lice are reported" ,i do feel sorry for the children who get them, they get alienated by people and other children in the class/nursery.
they can be treated with a good shampoo that you can buy from a pharmacy/chemist. as i said before they live in clean hair and MOST people get them. there no big deal.

your right i guess i think because i just went threw the horror that is lice i'm a little freaked out still but i do think i will bring somthing to spray on everything just in case. i think when you have to deal with it, its now something you think of when it would never entered your mind as for people thinking its not very common you would be surprised how many people have had it but never would admit it to anyone not one of my close friends or family have any idea we had it they would all swear they didn't no anyone who ever had them

Getting lice may seem like something nasty to you, but it really just means that you have clean hair. Lice are only attracted to really clean hair. If you put some kind of product like hair spray or whatever in your hair it should repell the lice.

I am a band director. 2 years ago I took my middle school band down to Disney to perform. A chaperone discovered that one of the girls had lice. We informed the hotel and they took it very seriously. (We were staying at AS Music). The manager went to the drug store and bought the lice shampoo for the girl and her 3 roommates. My chaperones washed all four girls hair with it and then they were switched to a new room. Disney totally stripped everything out of their original room and any room the girls came in contact with. I had their band uniforms in my room, so they sent someone down to change all of the linens and bedspreads. They handled the situation very professionally as I would expect them to. No one else in our group got lice and the girl that had it was "cured" that night.

I really don't think that there is any thing to worry about when staying in a Disney resort. They are the best in the business in my opinion, especially after experiencing their response to such a situation.

I agree they are no big deal- you are making me wonder, though, if they might be more common in some climates than others. My mom, my godmother, my best girlfriend and a few family friends have worked for years in classrooms and they always treated it like a pretty rare occurance.

Ugh, I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it- I never had to have my hair cut but I remember sitting for what felt like HOURS while my mom ran that comb through my hair, picking out nits! NOT FUN. Stupid Girl Scouts

thats all it is;it is pretty rare- if one child has it its better to inform the parents than the whole class getting it. if i am told that a child has nits/lice when i come home and i ask my mum to go through my hair. its no big deal. i remember when i was in college my class had to do a booklet on nits/lice and we had to put in pictures of them in the booklet,YUK, the pictures we got off the web were disgusting and we had to enlarge them to make them fit in the booklet, but the facts we discovered where interesting. still makes me want to itch thinking about it.UGH!

 My school nurse would use little wooden sticks. I never quite understood what it was she was doing. :lookaroun

As for spilling something on the comforters... I was thinking ketchup. I could step on a packet and it would evenly disperse over both beds comforters. But soda would work just as well. :D

Another thing that makes the whole comforter thing sickening is that aside from frisky couples and boogery children, people must eat on them alot. I know that sometimes we bring our trays to our room from the foodcourt. We'd usually put the trays on the bed rather than on our microscopic table. Imagine all the crumbs and globs of nacho cheese. Ewwww.

"Hun I smell chilli-cheese fries...oh wait it's the comforter." :hurl:

I didn't know I was using it wrong.

 I curl up with my bedspread at HOME, where I know it is clean

Not in a hotel room where it's been handled by God knows how many people since they washed it last. I always imagine kids jumping on there with dirty shoes... people tossing their luggage on top of it after it's sat on the ground in the airport and the street and all the other fun places luggage tends to hang out... moms changing dirty diapers... it's like money. You just don't know what it's been through before you get to it
