Great Movie Ride or Old-school movie ride?

I laughed imagining someone from TDO going "I wonder what's behind the hat, we could probably put something there..." and then a few cast members panicking and siphoning him around the hat to some other part of the park.
Hahaha xD

I know Disney has a bad reputation with their upgrades on classic rides/shows.. Tiki Room, Imagination.. But what about the good things that they actually have done? The fantasyland expansion I think is a GREAT example. As well as Star Tours II and from Tarzan to Finding Nemo. Test Track to the new version.

They could do it right if they don't go to all-screens and don't go too heavy on only the NEW Disney movies.

Does anyone know if they still run the western scene? I was there a few weeks ago and asked the CM if they were currently running it and he said "Sorry, we don't run that scene anymore". I didn't have a chance to clarify if he meant just that day or that the scene was permanently retired.
Yes. When we rode it in October we got to see it. It was my wifes first time seeing it,and my first time since 97. Every time we've rode they always do the gangster part. It was very nice seeing it again, and my wife loved it. I think its a lot better than the gangster scene. It was refreshing having the cowboy CM hijack the ride and do their shtick,as opposed to the over done gangster.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

It was running in mid-November, as I was quite excited for the change of scene. My nieces loved the whoosh of flames.

Personally I'm a fan of the gangster one. But the cowboy show is only done during high volume times and the front cars see it. Ask the cm and they'll put you in front, if they're running it.

When we went in Oct. the Western scene was up and running. I had been going there for years and first took my wife there (then girlfriend) since 2007. This was the first time she saw it. I really don't think you can get rid of the Footlight Parade scene as it goes into what old Hollywood movies used to be about. If they changed it, I think they would need another old school movie. In reference to effects, in the gangter scene, the car would come out of the tunnel and engage the gangster with gunfire. During some trips, it would already be there and then would engage. Sometimes I would just hear the voices of the gangsters in the car and there would be no other external effects. I guess that is their "C" mode. Also, here is some trivia, the license plate on that car reads 02-14-29. That was the date of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago.

And the Footlight Parade scene! The original Disco Yeti. How long has that part been in "B-mode"?
I've always suspected this scene "did" more than it currently does-even the bubbles seem to be a thing of the past, and I've read about faulty fountains that flooded the roadway-but what exactly did the dancers do?

Just did it on Sunday and it was fine I think the hat blocking it makes people forget it is there. If I haven't been there a lot and read up on Disney I would not know it is there that is the issue.

I am not a huge fan of TGMR, usually go on it just to get out of the heat or off my feet, but I think it is a ride that could have great potential. I love movies, and my favorite part of it is seeing the screen clips at the end, I think it needs expanded, the old classic stuff needs to stay, but more of the current movies need to be added. Maybe add an interactive que that lists out movie quotes and you have to name the movie.

No offense. I mean, to each their own. But you're someone I don't agree with in any way. I don't want to come off as demeaning or single you out, but sometimes I'm just so baffled by other people's opinions. I feel as though someone has used time travel to alter the universe and I'm left all alone protected from the changes in the timeline with the knowledge of how everything used to be.

I love the GMR, having that said, I would love for the movie clips to go digital so it has a clear picture. When I rode it in September the images on the screen at the beginning of the ride and at the end were a little fuzzy. Also, I would not touch the original ride at all. All those movies were major hits at the time. What I would do is make the ride longer and add on all the current hits from the past 20 years.

I'm beginning to think that the Great Movie at HS ride is starting to be forgotten. When was the last time you heard that it was closing for a refurbishment? When was the last time the entrance wasn't blocked by a giant hat? When was the last time it actually had a long queue wait? Has it even ever had a sign on the front indicating that it was an attraction rather than just on the park maps??

I totally agree with you. I really enjoy this ride but it needs a massive update. It also doesn't just have to be 'The Disney Movie Ride' as Disney can also use movies from Touchstone Pictures, ABC Studios, Dimension Films, Hollywood Pictures and many more as Disney owns these studios. Disney also retains the rights to use some MGM movies and may also still hold the rights to some Miramax movies like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill etc which were made while Disney owned it. The possibilities are endless.

I still enjoy it for sure... but I have to also say that I have been fortunate enough to have great CM's working the attractions; we've all read of people barely doing the minimum while narrating. I think there are a few issues when it comes to adding new films... obviously issues with royalties and rights and I understand they have plenty of money but it's still an issue to deal with. Personally, they're classics... and classics for a reason. Why remove them for the Justin Bieber generation?

I agree! I feel like this is also the issue Carousel of Progress encounters. The past matters so more would just have to be added. Will it? That's the million dollar question.
