What I remember about GFC - we ate there once for lunch. It was a spur of the moment thing. We were there December 2008 with our then-only child who was an infant. We had just spent some time in MK and since she had already fallen asleep we decided not to chance getting her all cranky on the bus back to SSR. So after a precarious boat ride (really should have monorailed it), we had lunch at the Cafe. In a word - meh. I would classify it as one of our worst meals on property but only because most of our sit down meals have been generally good ones (I don't include the "bad meals" that were "our fault" - our own crankiness or crying baby or things that had nothing to do with food or service). The meal itself was adequate but despite being a very slow day, only a handful of customers, and despite being seated quickly, it took forever to get our meals. And we were apologetically explicit about getting served quickly - "if our baby wakes up she will be miserable, there will be shrieks and all manner of unpleasantness, please please please let the kitchen know we'd like to eat before she becomes an issue to other patrons?" 45 minutes later, she's been awake, crying, my wife's already gone to another room to breastfeed, THAT'S when our food comes and by the time she arrives to eat, everything meant to be hot is not.
From the sound of it we caught them on a bad day. But to be so explicit about what we were trying to do and to be rebuffed really felt like a grand and not-so-subtle eff-you to us. We didn't go back on our subsequent trip and have no plans the next time.
As far as the OP goes, I certainly hope it's a better experience. The one nice thing is it sounds like you're not going out of your way specifically to dine at GFC - more that you want to visit GF and you're killing 2 birds with one stone. So perhaps your expectations will be low.
Side note - on our last trip, we DID go to 1900 Park Fare. Our least favorite character meal, our least favorite buffet, but I'd still probably choose it over GFC.
