Goodbye Poly?

This has been floating around for a while. The Poly is not in great shape. I was amazingly underwhelmed with it in July. It is not deluxe level.

I love the Poly!! I wouldn't want to see it completely torn down and turned into a different looking resort. Updates are always needed, though.

If this does happen I wouldn't mind that 12 story mega-hotel originally planned. I would definitely hate to see it go, though I don't see it happening.

I don't know what will be the future of the Poly...

I do know that twenty-five years ago, one could lay on the beach and swim in the lagoon. Now it looks like Chernobyl. (Or, I suppose, Fukushima for our younger readers). That green zombie-plant-thingy is moving ashore, threatening to engulf the rusty beach swing and other furniture. (...and any unsuspecting tourists who may have fallen asleep on the Poly's lazy beach benches. Run, you fools, run!)

I highly doubt the Poly will be going anywhere. I could see Disney doing some pretty significant refurbs (say, on the scale of what the Disneyland Hotel is currently going through), perhaps stripping down and rebuilding the Grand Ceremonial Hall, rearranging portions of the lobby interior, redoing the pool, or converting some of the wings over to DVC. However, Disney has shown recently that they do honor authentic-looking, short-scale buildings even when temptation demands otherwise (building only a 5-story Grand Floridian DVC when we all know a tower would have sold just as well), so I doubt we'll see any 10+ story monstrosities built on the site of the Poly. I think its time is due for some major refurbishment work, which every resort needs at some point, but I'm sure Disney knows not to demo or radically modify one of its most popular resorts.

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
I dont know what to think!

This is our dream resort and we hope stay here sometime in the future so would love to see a huge refurb but tearing it down would be a nightmare.... would it ever feel like the Poly again??

Sure, everything can always use a little updating, paint, furniture etc. But to say the resort should be transformed to something different is crazy. It's an original, very unique and does not have that cookie cutter feel like many of the other resorts. We have stayed club level at almost every resort and they are all nice, but now the poly is the only place we stay. It's the only one we truly relax at and enjoy. To get rid of such a place you might as well get rid of the contemporary, tiki room, space mt, haunted mansion, space ship earth, and anything else that makes Disney truly great and unique. For those who disagree there are amusement parks all over the country that have generic hotels and rides that are sparkling new and all the same except the name out front lol.

I can't control what will happen down the road, but if the resort goes I can honestly say we will not be back :(

Little by little, brick by brick, they are systematically changing everything awesome about WDW.

Keep it up, Disney. I am *this close* to writing the whole place off forever.

I really hope that aint true, look what they did to the contemporary when they remodeled it! they took away the openness of the one side of the grand concourse and cluttered it up with a cheap disney store and dungeon like arcade. That area used to be really beautiful and they killed it. I can see them doing the same to the poly.

With the exception of maybe the new haunted mansion, everytime disney tries to fix something, or re-do something they somehow manage to kill the original beauty of what they are fixing

The Poly has the look, and the smell of a 1970's motor lodge. NOT the four star resort they're charging you for. I'm surprised they haven't capitalized on it's location, and views already.

I love the Poly, but there's no doubt - Some areas need work. The GCH while beautiful, needs new elevators (as do the longhouses). They need a hot tub and a gym. They also need new housekeepers.

One thing they do NOT need is DVC. Enough already.
