Goodbye Camp Minnie Mickey

IIRC that Nemo, Bugs Life, and FoTLK, were air conditioned.

I should have said more air conditioning, especially in the queue lines... Dinosaur is the only ride where the queue line is indoors and the air-conditioning actually works. Bug's Life is still real muggy in the covered area before the doors.

Am I the only one that's not going to miss it? I always thought Camp Minnie-Mickey seemed like a huge waste of space, and thought that it always felt like the filler it pretty much was. I always felt FotLK was a better fit for Africa (and I'm very glad to see it moved there) and dedicating the entire rest of the land to what were basically outdoor, unthemed meet-and-greets just seemed silly. I'm not saying Avatar is the perfect replacement but it's got to be better than the state CM-M was in during its twilight days.

Thank you.
I was just about to post the exact same words in your first two sentences....when i read you comments.

I am also a little surprised at the love that is coming out of the woodwork for this area of the Park.
Yes, it was a *quiet* little area of the Park...and i can see how some would find a little appeal in that.
There was nothing in the form of attractions however, especially if you were not into character experiences.

It was clearly just a placeholder sparsely designed to the minimum to fill the empty spot on that side of the Park.
It solely existed only until something bigger and better was finally slated to be built there.

CMM was a long walk, in the hottest Park within WDW to boot, to reach ...well, nothing really.
The exception of course was the wonderful FotLK show, but everything else was just space fillers.
Once the *Pocahotas and Her Forest Friends* production was shut down, my impression of the place dimmed even more.

I am shedding no tears at seeing it gone...and seeing it wiped clean from the Park Maps now actually has me excited for what is about to come.
CMM was indeed a waste of space in my opinion, especially with FoTLK now moving over to Africa.

Bring on Pandora...and the FUTURE DAK..!
:)

I never set foot in Camp Minnie-Mickey, so I guess I won't miss it! We always tour AK last, so by the time we got there, we typically had already met Minnie, Mickey, etc. in the other parks and weren't particularly drawn by any of the "unique" characters in CMM.

We wanted to see FOTLK, but on prior trips were too hot, tired and pooped by the time we circled around to it. We had it on the list as a "must-do" for next time, but we'll be missing it since our visit falls in the "dead zone" between its removal and reinstatement after the new theater is built.

Serves me right -- if you want to see something at WDW, do it while you can, because you never know when it will be gone!

Haven't seen the movie yet....if i understand this correctly, its not a Disney movie and it doesn't have anything to do with animals, right? So Disney's Animal Kingdom seems like the logical place....after all Disney (Pixarmarvelhenson) doesn't have the catalog from which to develop a super land/attraction for the Animal Kingdom....so so sad

The logic behind Avatar in Animal Kingdom to the Imagineers is the idea of what would Life be like on planet other then Earth.

I finally go to see it this December. Its fun and entertaining if you need a break for the heat. But I will agree I am usually pooped from walking around, but I also find Animal Kingdom beautiful and get lost wandering down the trails.

Yea. Based on that premise Avatar is a great option because it did catch the eyes of how life could be. I would have been happier if Disney had teamed up with one of discover/animal planet special where they explored what life could be. But Avatar is one of the most popular complete example of this. (Star wars is another great example but the films just show a glance of native life on other planets, the EU does a better job).

Actually animals, fictitious ones at least, play a very important role in the plot of Avatar.
