Goodbye Camp Minnie Mickey

I'll miss CMM. I would go there and watch FoLK, have a funnel cake & listen to the guy playing guitar, then go back and watch FoLK again. Just a nice peaceful spot.

I'm not looking forward to Avatar, hopefully they will change my mind on that. (If it is built)

Does not count.

1. The only reason it made that much money is because Fox released it twice.

2. Just because a movie makes a lot of money does not mean its good. *cough*transformerstrilogy*cough*

I'm confused as to why it wouldn't count. Was it not real people that used real money to purchase the movie?

Every time Disney re-releases a popular movie from the "vault" does that not count too?

Am I the only one that's not going to miss it? I always thought Camp Minnie-Mickey seemed like a huge waste of space, and thought that it always felt like the filler it pretty much was. I always felt FotLK was a better fit for Africa (and I'm very glad to see it moved there) and dedicating the entire rest of the land to what were basically outdoor, unthemed meet-and-greets just seemed silly. I'm not saying Avatar is the perfect replacement but it's got to be better than the state CM-M was in during its twilight days.

Most people didn't care about Avatar when they saw it. The talk was all about the special effects. There was no talk about the story or characters, at least none that I ever heard.

Outside of this board, nobody has mentioned Avatar in my presence since it was in the theaters. It just went away.

Disney should cut it's losses on this Avatar thing and just do something new and creative there. Maybe the old Beastly thing, maybe something else. But let this Avatar thing go!
Well said

I trust Disney, and am holding out hope for something special. Even for those who aren't big Avatar fans, I am glad the AK is getting an infusion of new energy.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Nothing of substance will be gone. The M&Gs and Gi-Tar Dan will be moved, and the (overrated IMO) FOLK should be seeing some upgrades, I pray.
The only downside of this is the possibility that it will go WoL on us and not see development for some time.

Your logic would stand if it wasn't still the best selling blu-ray of all time. If people hate it in theatres they aren't going to buy in on DVD/Bluray. There are people out there who like it. You may not enjoy it but people do. For instance I can not stand the Dark Night but all my friends love it.

I'm sure the movie is great, made a ton of money both in theaters and bluray...still don't see how it warrants a huge piece (land) of a wdw theme park

I am not say it is or it doesn't. But WDW is watching UNI capitalize on these successful movies and Disney is thinking the same.

1. According to Box Office Mojo the re-release only accounted for $10 million.

2. The Transformers ride has been very well received at Uni, so that shows that a movie doesn't have to be good to be turned into a great ride.

The only thing I remember about Camp Minnie-Mickey was meeting Pocahontas there, and the statues of Mickey & crew fishing. I miss Toon Town more.

Cool little place especially with little ones...
Have they really thought this Avatar thing through??

My guess is no. The movie was released four years ago and although it did wow me when I saw it I really do not have any lasting impressions or yearning to see more naked blue tiger people on the big screen much less an entire land based solely on one singular movie that I can almost guarantee will not have the time proven staying power they think it will.

I kind of call into question why they did not get the backup theater built for FOTLK before shutting it down. It is a HUGE draw and was a must-do (as Stacy says) for us every visit. Shutting it down is really only going to hurt park attendance IMO at least until the new theater is up and running.

Unless my thinking is correct and they are just using Avatar in order to get the infrastructure in place so that, as soon as everyone finally forgets about it*, they can build Beastly Kingdomme (or Middle-Earth) on top of it.

*and realizes that they've been had by James Cameron's emotional manipulation and pretty colors

I am assuming they wanted to either A) reuse the lighting and sound systems, seating to the new theater and B)Last I checked its been a long time sense that attraction has been refurbed. So I am hoping for some tender love and care on the "floats"

The ultimate hope is they are using the space of the OLD FOTLK to rehearse new concepts for the show.

I don't think your ever going to see Beastly Kingdomme happen. I think your more likely to see a Mysterious Island replace it.

I think it would be more entertaining if they were to build "The Room" land.

That's what they said for "Dumbo's Circusland" back in the 70s. ;)
