Some people didn't like the movie or the premise behind it. Some are worried about 15 foot tall blue aliens in the park. IMHO, I believe that the only thing "Avatar" about the new land will be the background and scenery. No storyline that would offend many guests. No large AAs. No meet 'n' greets here either. How can you meet a 15 foot tall alien?

Maybe part of the reason that it has taken 2 years to get to the construction part, is that they were waiting for a certain piece of technical know-how to mature enough, or even to be invented, before they could proceed with the project. There has been talk about using the bioluminescence seen in the film for the trees and fauna. How hard is it to do that in real life, with real people, and have it be reliable enough that it doesn't require constant maintenance to keep it looking good? When you have people tramping all over the path, that creates a lot of wear and tear on something. Maybe they were waiting to perfect a certain ride vehicle or some other mechanical piece that they might have had trouble getting to work reliably. Maybe they are trying to float mountains that look like they are really floating!

Only the people working on the project have any real knowledge of what is going on, and what we are going to see. I, for one, am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until we see what it really is. Then, we can start bashing them for going cheap, or not doing it the way we would do it! :D

Having something light up when we touch it will not be impressive. It's not 1985. Most people have used touch screens and have touched something to see it light up before. We've also received letters with our names on them and had computer things say our names to us in public. Clerks who read our name from their computer call us by name, as if to make it a personal thing.

It was all amazing when it was new, but has a BTDT feel to it now.

If it's very, very pretty, that will be nice. Pretty is always nice. But light-up flowers? I don't think that's going to be a big deal.

Most people didn't care about Avatar when they saw it. The talk was all about the special effects. There was no talk about the story or characters, at least none that I ever heard.

Outside of this board, nobody has mentioned Avatar in my presence since it was in the theaters. It just went away.

Disney should cut it's losses on this Avatar thing and just do something new and creative there. Maybe the old Beastly thing, maybe something else. But let this Avatar thing go!

I think Avatar is a great canvas for doing something new an creative.

With no show in the show part and no FotLK, there really isn't anything left. They've effectively shut down an entire land...and one I liked much more than another land which shall remain nameless (but rhymes with Rhinoland.)

If they aren't moving forward on this Avatar deal (which would be FINE with me!), I hope they do something in there.

So much of Disney is being cut or shut down, but a whole section of a park? Just seems wrong.

So long, Camp Minnie Mickey!

Gynoland??

Your actually talking about more then light up flowers, especially if you have seen what Disney Research as been working on ;).

Actually Disney has been very obvious with some of their features and technologies that they are going to use if you know where to look.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I completely understand that everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to movies. However in my personal experiences, when it comes to Avatar, it seems like the only reason a lot of people either purchased the movie or even watched the movie to begin with was simply because they wanted to see how it looked on their New HD-TV and not because they had heard or thought it was going to be a really good movie. It seems like a lot of Avatars successes inside and outside the theaters had to do more with the big HD and 3D craze and all the interesting colors included in the movie than it did about the actual story of the movie itself.

Like others have said, I guess if Disney's plans and intentions are to build the most extrodanary land that WDW has ever seen and if they do it right and really wow everybody, then obviously people will love it and it will be a big success wether or not people even liked the movie, but like everything else there are risks, but I just feel like Disney is possibly taking too big of a risk and a non-sensible one at a time when they might not be able to afford to. Avatarland is going to be a huge gamble and all I can do is hope for the best.

Calling CMM a land is a bit of a stretch, considering there really was only a single attraction which happened to have nothing to do with Mickey or Minnie by the way. I don't imagine Disney, a fortune 50 company, will spend a lot of time with the corporations are evil plot line of the movie. I expect it will have as much to do with the movie and its stories as test track has to do with actually designing and prototyping cars. There will be some superficial connections, mostly visual, and then on to creating immersive experiences (I hope). Regardless I find it had to pass judgment on the new land until they at least get it partially built and more information becomes available, we all know artist's renderings are less they perfect at predicting what is to come.

If Disney's getting rid of CMM, Avatarland better wow me. It's so disappointing that Disney has to get rid of a great section of the park for Avatar. I mean, really? Avatar isn't even actual Disney.

I got through a minute and a half of the first video. Okay, there is music when you touch the plant. Also a yawn for me. It's just computers. It's not lightening. Even 90 seconds of it bored me.

We've all touched things and heard music. You can wave your hands around in the Imagination pavilion and make noise.

If people do enjoy touching something and hearing noise, then I am happy for them and for Disney. Doesn't interest me.

I want something creative and new. Something I haven't seen before. Something interesting. It need not wow me with it's technology or be interactive in any way.

You'd think a guy as curious about a bunch of sunken treasure as James Cameron is would get that. A bunch of everyday stuff sitting on the bottom of the ocean floor is way more interesting than all this technology. Joe Rohde, too. He runs the animal/nature park. He should know that no tech stuff can compete with that.

Sometimes I think I'm just getting old and people can't be interested in non-tech things, but then I think that No, they would love it, if Disney would just DO something interesting and creative.

This is new. They are interfacing living items with computers systems. Everything that about is scientifically amazing. The system they are demonstrating is a proof a concept where so much can be done to create an interactive experience that would put Imagination works to shame. Disney has also been sponsoring bio-engineering work to create plant that not living person has ever seen or imagine before. None of that wows you.
As for the second video (I take you didn't watch), show the ability to make someone feel like that they are touch fabric or wood or brick just by stimulating the air around the skin. This could be use to create a whole new atmosphere, or a new ride effect never seen before. A ride touching a guest in a way no ride has done be fore.

No, I have no interest in touching something and hearing music or seeing it light up or any of that. Maybe I've just seen enough technological things, lol.

If it serves some purpose, like if they could make deaf people hear or lame people walk or even stir the soup for me with less work that it would be to just stir it...that would be nice. But it's going to have to be a radically new, exceptionally impressive tech thing that serves no purpose to impress me. I really may have just seen too many new tech things.

If they do it and you're interested in it, I'm happy for you. :) Enjoy! :)

Like I said previously this technology is not just for lighting things up and playing music. You could control a vehicle via a plant with this technology. Its brings in a new realm of Bio-interfacing.
Actually I am interested in it because its the attention of detail that we love about Disney, but then again I enjoy sitting and watching the fiber optic sidewalks at Epcot.

Why would I want to control a car with a plant? I will tell you, lol. I wouldn't.

I think different things interest different people. If lots of people love the idea of hearing music when they touch a plant, then that's great for them. I hope it's all big success and everyone is happy. It just won't interest me.

Pardon my post errors.
