You must be British, I thought only we had such apathetic people.

The millions of uncast votes, if cast WOULD make a difference in an election. I have always voted, even when I had no faith in any of the many candidates, I still made it know at the ballot box.

Not only will you help shape America during this pivotal part of our history... you also get a sticker! :)
Flashy Americans  We get nothing after a vote here. It's also less hi-tech, and probably better for it. You get a sheet of paper with the candidates names on it, head into a booth where there is a stubby pencil attached to a bit of string and you put a cross in the appropriate box. Then stuff the paper in a tin box. Job done, no sticker, no lollypop, zippo!

If a day comes when you DO decide that your vote (which has been bought and preserved by the blood of your countrymen) is worth casting, please do the rest of us a favor and at least find out HOW, WHEN, and WHERE to vote BEFORE you show up at a polling place! The problems in 2000, and those that we're going to have today, can be largely contributed to first time or uninformed voters who FINALLY, for whatever reason, decide to exercise their rights. Of course, there were/will be exceptions to the rule, but an informed electorate would have gone a long way towards preventing all of the hanging chads, double votes, etc of the last election.

Thank you, Marcia, for mentioning that. How many among us would be willing to bear arms, and die if necessary, to preserve this Republic? I've stood next to some who travelled oceans and died to protect the freedoms and voting rights of those unwilling to cross their street to exercise them. Shameful! :(

PS: I voted at 6:08 this morning.

Big turnout in our district. I was in line for about 40 minutes. I think the longest I've ever waited before was probably about 10.

By chance, are you a complainer? I sincerely hope not because your choice not cast a ballot means you've decided to smother your own voice. Or if this was an attempt at humor, it was a real bad one. :fork:

Waited in line for 2 hours this morning, and not one complaint from me.

Was just going to say the same thing. If you refuse to vote (which is sad, IMHO) you give up your right to complain about how the country is run.
EVERY vote counts.

I keep reading about all of the lines, I've never had to wait more than a minute or two.
Maybe I just go at off times or we have more voting booths at the polls. *shrugs*
I've waited longer to vote on the school budget than I have to vote for President.

Over here I have never had to queue to vote, always walked straight in, picked up the form, crossed the box, posted it and out within two minutes.

Also, there are so many voting stations wherever I have lived that there is no excuse not to vote, the furthest I ever had to go was a five minute stroll.

*sigh* With the exception of mkt being stupid (silly, not dumb  ), I don't think anyone has said WHO they are going to vote for, or tried to influence anyone else's descisions.

This thread serves as a reminder to do an important task, not caring how you do that task.

No, in my opinion,
A) The topic title suggested "who would you vote for"
B) The actual thread wanted discussion over politic policies that would affect the WDC

Maybe you didn't mean that, but you could have worded it better, and posted it in a more appropriate forum.

That's all I'm going to say on the matter, otherwise this is going to go round in circles.

Americans, enjoy your democratic right to vote for who you please.

I feel proud to be part of the largest absentee ballot submission in election history.

I was kind of uneased that I had to mark my selections with PENCIL?!?!

I'm Canadian it makes no difference who votes for who to me but in this time of who's better than who, it is better to take a "chill pill". It is easy to get red faced. Respect one another, breath...for tomorrow everything will be as it should :) We should all be lucky that we can vote or have an opinion not every country has that previledge.

Good Luck to You All :)

And in 20 years you'll be saying the opposite

Voted this morning. Had to wait over 30 minutes. First time I have ever had to wait more than 5 minutes.

I voted today at around 10:10am! We didn't have much to vote for, and we only waited about 2 minutes. We found that if we go after the morning people, but before the lunch crowd we wouldn't have to wait.

I voted (along with seemingly everyone in my small little town) at 7:30 this morning. NO confusion there, with felt tip markers filling in circles next to your choices. easy peasy.

and I asked for my "I voted" sticker, and I got two. :)

and did anyone notice that the stickers are smaller this year? In 2000,they were much bigger!

But it still made my day.
