Give a day get a day ending?

Saw the following when scanning the web. Apparently the Hands On Network sent an email to volunteer organizations that the program will shortly be coming to a close due do nearing the one million mark. It said that anyone already registered to volunteer should be good but that as of March 5 no new organizations wanting to participate will be accepted. I for one am hoping Disney continues the program. No sure about doing a copy and paste of the posting but if you want it let me know. I did a quick search here but didn't see anything, mods you can remove if I missed it or posted in wrong spot.

I just got this from the group I contacted as well:
FIRST: VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! Disney is likely ending this promotion this weekend, so it is very important that you go into the Disney site and register for a commitment date. Everyone who is registered for both parts will be OKAY… but if you have not registered before they end the promotion, I’m not sure we can get you the tickets.
I actually stopped by the News forum to see if this was true and if anyone had heard anything about this yet in a more official manner.

Well that didn't take long to reach the million volunteers.. And to think some podcasters thought this would be a failure.... The sad part is now that there will be no more free admission there will probably be less volunteers..

By the way this is post 2000 :)

Wow. All that promo & it's done. Is it just me or does it seem like (from the advertising buck investment) a whole lot of promo for not much payback? Maybe the rest of the year we can just celebrate that Disney World is an awesome place. That would be far more sincere, IMO, rather than another gimmick to bring in the masses.

Lovely.

We registered for a program that could include the kids, but we couldn't get a date until May.

The Disney site won't let you register more than 60 days out.

We are locked out.

That stinks!

Didn't people say that if you are already registered you are going to get your vouchers?

i think it may be good PR for Disney with all of the promotion they have put into this to come out and say, we have reached a million and are going for a million more. wouldn't really look great if you end your year long promotion in March.

When in May is the date you were looking at, if it was towards the beginning of the month you may still be able to sign up.

I'm really bummed about this. I've been contacting all kinds of organizations over and over again for the past 2 months and they don't ever get back to me. Now it looks like I won't get a shot, which is too bad because had we had the opportunity, it would have saved us $260 on our AP renewals and gotten me a free night at a hotel (valued at $140).

I'm planning on using our two, one-day tickets towards our AP renewal but how were you planning on getting a free hotel night as well?

Might as well, since there would be no way for us to register in such a short amount of time, being that this promo may end this weekend. The fact that where I live, they have volunteering dates until May, :D

Same here.

We called on Feb 2nd and the only available date was Mother's Day, May 9th.

If the program is ending, and it looks like it is, we would have not even been able to register before it ended.

It's not like we waited around forever either.

It says on the official page that they're getting close:

We're getting close to our goal of inspiring one million people to volunteer a day of service. So sign up to make a difference today! Just search for an eligible opportunity, complete the registration form and confirm a specific date and time to volunteer at a participating organization through this site. Each person who participates in this program will receive a 1-day, 1-theme park ticket to Disneyland® Resort or Walt Disney World® Resort, free.

I don't know when it's getting shut down but they have changed the page as well.

edit: Looking through the opportunities for the Tampa Bay Area there are a TON now. Seems like every volunteer group is trying to get their last-minute signups. There are SO many available right now.

How was it going to save you $260 on AP renewal?

I'm staying at a hotel over the summer that gives you a 3rd night free (saves $130...I think I wrote $140 above on accident) if you show proof that you participated in this promotion.

Laura buys multiple APs for her family.

That's how.

I'm still contacting the organizations that are left on the list. I'm still getting no responses. I think I may just give up.
