Girl Molested at Downtown Disney

This was at Pleasure Island?

:)

No it was not.

If Disney was looking for further justification for their decision to close PI, this was it.....

it's sad that there are creeps like that running around.....

Again, this was not at PI. Actually if you look on a map of where the article said it happened and where PI is, its 18.1 miles or a HALF HOUR AWAY FROM DISNEY. This happened about a mile from MCO (Orland Int Airport). I know that this is still close to Disney but a the title of the thread is "girl molested at downtown disney". This has nothing to do with Disney, PI closing or anything like that at all.

Here is a link to google maps that shows where the attack happened and where PI is.

Lets not all get freaked out thinking this is all going on at DTD, this is actually the closest of all four attacks that people are getting worried about that "happened at disney".

What article? I can't find where any article said where it happened. Did I miss something?
The link now points to the incorrect article.

It did not HAPPEN at PI, it was at Westside....
He was caught at PI

So for justification, PI helped catch the deviant....Keep PI open!

Let's face it, the whole Pleasure Island/Maketplace/West End Complex could be a veritable Smorgasbord for pickpockets, pedophiles, con artists, and many other kinds of deviates, punks and thugs.

I think Disney needs to gate the whole area, not just PI, and set up multiple video cameras all around, and charge $5-10 for parking.
Although some of these creeps would still get in, I doubt most criminals would pay money to get to an area to do something illegal that there's a good chance they will get caught doing.
Just my thoughts.

Isn't putting WDW next to Orlando a bit like putting DL next to LA? WDW is south of Orlando proper.

(Not to argue that there's no crime in the WDW area, but it seems unfair to just link it to crime in the largest nearby urban center without doing the same for DL. I imagine the numbers would be unflattering either way.)

WDW isn't in Orlando - Disneyland IS in Anaheim. You can't compare the two.

You can compare Orlando to LA - to me, that is more comparable. Much of the crime in Orlando is far away from the parks. But nowhere is 100% safe, it doesn't matter if you charge for parking, etc.

That's pretty much what I was saying.

The other poster went back and used Kissimmee instead of Orlando after my post, which seems like a fairer comparison, since the actual location of WDW — Lake Buena Vista — isn't a real city. Kissimmee is probably the closest actual city to WDW.

I just wanted to make sure we were comparing apples to apples. Orlando to Anaheim doesn't seem relevant. Kissimmee to Anaheim I can live with, and let the chips fall where they will.

(Although to be honest, I'm not sure why we're delving into crime statistics at all, based on a story of a girl who got her booty grabbed by a pervert.)

Because it speaks directly to the type of civic environment the Disney properties work within and near. Orlando/Kissimmee is a horribly crime ridden metro area that has some of the most dangerous streets per capita anywhere in the nation.

And those "VISIT ORLANDO!" TV commercials certainly are using the Orlando brand name as an umbrella to lure tourists to visit them. http://www.orlandoinfo.com/

Orlando/Kissimmee is rife with crime, and the quality of life is vastly inferior to most other big cities in America. And so of course these low life criminals in Orlando/Kissimmee are going to find their way on Disney property in Florida easier than they are in California. This thread exists because of that fact.

VISIT ORLANDO! http://www.orlandoinfo.com
But watch your wallet, your car, and your kids.

Yeah, I'm just not seeing how this incident qualifies as a vast indictment of Orlando's quality of life. This really strikes me as the kind of thing that could happen on any street in America.

If you go to the National $ex Offendor's Registry and type in your address, odds are you'll find a good many perverts who live and work around you...and those are just the ones that have been convicted. It's hardly an Orlando-centric phenomenon.

No offense, but deviants like this are attracted to any place where there are children.

I've never been to PI, so I have no opinion on whether it closes or not...

While this is certainly no light matter, if Disney hadn't of opened up the gate to PI to people under 21, an 11 year old would have never been at PI after midnight to begin with.

However, closing PI will unfortunately not put a stop to pedophiles finding their prey someplace else. :(

You have a good point. Not to defend this jerk, but a club area like PI is not a great spot for a 12yo. I would be uneasy having my daughter around guys that could be half in the tank. I don't blame her parents, because maybe they didnt realize that PI was more of a night club type place.

If there is good news, it would be that, with his prior, he will soon be reunited with his cellmate.:sohappy:

If you are uneasy having your child around drunk people, then your family should avoid EPCOT'S World Showcase during the Food and Wine Festival. It's getting worse every year as far as public intoxication goes.
