Gene Simmions of Kiss was on Nightline tonight in the segment where celebs say what songs had the biggest influence on there life. His number 4 song was "When You Wish Upon A Star" the Cliff Edwards version from "Pinochhico"(misspelled). He says he crys when he sings it.

Guess he is not as bad a guy as he portrays himself to be.

Agreed. I love Gene. His American success story is VERY inspirational.
He was born poor and his father ran out on him and his mom...They moved from Israel to the good ole U.S.A. and he made a promise to (mom) that he would NEVER be poor again and take care of her....Well, He DID achieve everything he set out to do.
He is an economical genius and if ever ask he always says...There is NO excuse for failure in this great Nation! IF you WORK WORK WORK.
And yes......"When you with upon a star" IS a very very inspirational song.
It makes one want to go out and live and achieve..no whining, no excuses, no victimization....just go out and DO IT!!!
I love this thread, It hits home.

Sometimes you wonder if the celebrities are just lying to make themselves look better or throw you a curve when one of their answers seems to defy logic----in this case, it is the makeup-wearing, blood-spewing, rocker Simmons saying he loves "When You Wish Upon A Star"!!! But guess what? This is one of the rare times when the celeb has a genuine interest!!! On Gene's self-titled album, Gene Simmons, which was released in October of 1978, you'll find such rockers as "Radioactive" and "Man of 1,000 Faces." And right there to close out the track list is song #11---"When You Wish Upon A Star"!! He sings it exactly as it is supposed to be sung with an orchestra behind him (in other words, he's not changing up the body of the song to fit his style or playing it with "tongue in cheek".) So he is totally serious when he says that is one of his favorite songs----kinda refreshing, isn't it??!!!:)

Yep. Love that version because it isn't your usual Gene Simmons song. You hear it and you wonder who is singing it then look at the album then your jaw drops because it is so beautifully done.

Whether like KISS or not, go out and look for this album. It was the Solo Albums that each member did back in 78.

There is sometimes a huge difference between someone's stage personna and his (or her) real life. Just look at so many of our actors, singers, sports stars, etc. People would do well to appreciate what entertainers do without idolizing them. If you must have a role model, pick someone who is famous for being a good person...period. ;)

(I'm not saying that Gene Simmons is either a bad or good person, or somewhere in between, but just that he is famous for being an entertainer.)

Yeah, I was actually waiting for something to come up about that... FYI, it didn't.

I somehow flipped to Nightline when Leno was on commercial, and saw a KISS band member talking about his favourite Disney song. Needles to say I did a doubletake.

Did they ask him anything about that on Nightline? I see the new season of Family Jewels starts in a couple of weeks, so perfect timing for publicity anyways! ;)

Nope...Its a weekly Friday feature Nightline does. They take a musician and have him or her name the songs that had the most influence on them(some where between 5 or 8 songs). There was no mention of his A&E show at all.
