Would you do the same if a woman you weren't interested in hit on you?

There's no such thing as a 'sexual preference'. No one wakes up one day and suddenly decides he or she 'prefers' the same ______. You can't change what or who you're attracted too any more than you can change what food you like to eat or what the color of your skin is.

:brick:

Well, I've heard so many things in this thread I don't know what to call anybody! Is it sexual preference, orientation, or what!

And instead of being rude to someone who obviously is ignorant in this situation, why not HELP them?!?!? Explain to me before you get angry.

I find your comments to be very rude, and condesending.

Now, back to the subject.....orlando, congratulations again. I'm sure this must have been a big step in your life, and I'm glad you are secure enough with your self. Congratulations and best wishes for your family situation.

I'm sorry if I offended you. It certainly wasn't meant that way. One of the drawbacks of internet forums is that you can't see the person who is talking, so you can't always get an accurate picture of that persons' intent. I was, in fact, trying to deconstruct the myth of the 'sexual preference'.

You see, people having been using the 'sexual preference' or 'chosen lifestyle' argument to discriminate against gays and lesbians for a long time. By intimating that we 'choose' that lifestyle, they are saying we don't deserve protection from discrimination.

The point I was making is that being gay or lesbian is not a choice. We deny it to ourselves for a time, because while growing up, all you hear is how bad, or evil, or deviant being gay is.

The only 'choice' we have about being gay is when we finally decide to admit, or 'come out', to ourselves. Some people go through their entire lives, get married and have kids before they can come to terms with it. Some have the courage to do it while still in their teens.

In my case, I grew up a skinny geek, with three of the letters in my name spelling 'gay', and taking alot of guff. I knew I was gay when I was in my teens, but I dated girls and played the game until I finally came out to myself at 24. You see, the last thing I wanted to admit to myself was that all the people who had teased and taunted and worse were right. In the end, they were.

Again, I sincerely apologize if I offended you or anyone else. It's counter-productive to get angry rather than educate.

No I would not, but that is different for me since I like women. If I was not interested I would just let her say what she wanted and go about my day.

But if a gay guy does, just being who he is, you would hit him? That is what is widely known to most as a 'hate crime'.

I probably wouldn't hit them, I would definitely use excess profanity and yell at them to get away from me before I call the cops.

DarthDarrel: LOL!!!

Gary...this isn't aimed at you...but answers your question from a different perspective.

Warning....feminist manifesto coming...

I spent half of my life (ages 13 - almost 40)sometimes being "hit on" by guys who I didn't want within ten feet of me....and never hit them. Not even the ones who thought you were fair game for wolf whistles and sexual comments just because you had the nerve to walk by them on a public street! Sorry if I don't have a lot of sympathy for men who get hit on by people they aren't interested in. (and yes, I have been hit on by women, too. ;) Never once did I think of hitting them...it was just slightly awkward for all parties involved, but no one ever got angry about it. And they were always nicer about it than the guys I turned down, some of whom looked like they wanted to hit me!)

BTW...once I reached a certain age, it stopped. :sohappy:

Well, you cutie, if I were 30 years younger, I might hit on you, too! ;) Once in a while, even a gay guy has "hit" back, if only for a few hours. ;)

One of my favorite moments was working parade one night in front of the castle. I was messing with little kids having fun. Well I passed by one of the walk ways and two girls started to giggle. Later on that night one of my fellow CM's came up to me and told me "The two girls over there think your hot and want your number." It's actually very flattering. You would not belive the amount of pictures were taking of just me at work.......Makes me wonder if I am hanging in some teenage girls bedroom in the midwest LOL LL:rolleyes::lookaroun

Most girls I talk to on the street after a few minutes look at me and say...

"I will not be treated like street booty!"

Thats why I prefer my girls from the highway!

Now I am troubled...<sigh>

Mom- excellant point. We have to put up with the most disgusting comments from guys, ALL THE TIME, and it sure gets old fast.

I want to know- do they really think catcalls do anything for us? Are we supposed to be flattered, or do they honestly think we're going to run over with our clothes around our ankles? Wrong and wrong!

I know not all guys do it, and it's probably wrong for me to think this, but I also feel no sympathy for most men who get unwanted advances.
