Gastons retiring pork shanks

The amusing thing at Disney's failed attempt at copying Butterbeer, is after the failed Carsland drink, and rebranding for NFL, someone finally realized Disney already HAD their Butterbeer. And suddenly pineapple soft serve appeared in Animal Kingdom and Epcot (during both festivals). But I'm sure that's just coincidence.

But being organic to the experience helps a lot, which is why pork shank = good, and Blue Milk will be popular, but fruity rebranded drink = money grab. Tasty helps too, which is why Butterbeer became the big thing and pumpkin juice just languishes. November is about the only time that tastes good, but it's still too warm in Orlando.

I'm at gastons tavern right now. The pork shank appears to be relaxed by this cup of beef stew. Attached is the picture on the temporary menu (if I uploaded it right).

Do they actually open the can of Dinty Moore for you or just chuck that sucker right off your melon when they serve it?

I can't answer that. As neither myself nor anybody else in the place appeared to have ordered it. The guy behind the counter did point to the nice black cauldron in the back corner that they served it from though.

Did you see the concept art? You are not more aware of the drink because it didnt take off like butterbeer did.

I had always assumed that butter beer inspired Gaston's drink as well. It seemed pretty clear to me that the entire New Fantasyland was pushed into being by the WWofHP. I don't think that's a bad thing.

Do you think they are doing the stew for winter and the shank at other times? Someone reported earlier that they were told the shank wasn't disappearing but would be seasonal.

I like the stew, btw. I think it's a good fit and something different than you can get elsewhere.

Once again it shows that Burbank has total contempt for it's tried and true products, They try to copy another companies signature soft drink (because IP's outside of disney are better than internally developed IP's) yet they already have an insanely popular softserve/drink (I prefer the Dole whip float) item on both coasts but are too mulish to actually leverage it.

The guy I spoke to thought it was for good, but it was just the cast member behind the counter. I have no idea if he knew for sure or not, so I wouldn't necessarily call it a reliable source.

I agree that it's a good fit for the tavern, and it's different. I'm just disappointed as I really enjoyed the pork shank, it was one of my favorite items at Disney. Plus not sure I'd pay $10 for it (especially while we have record heat in Florida this November). If it sticks around maybe I'll try it.

I really can't imagine them serving this in the summer but I might be wrong. I guess we will see.
