Gas Prices affecting anyone's trip plans?

We are leaving Memorial Day weekend and planning on driving, even with $5 a gallon it would still be cheaper for us to drive than fly right now. So we are still planning on going, even though it might be more to budget.
But I was wondering if anyone is thinking of changing their trip plans due to gas prices? Or you willing to just pay more?

Heads up - This thread will be deleted in a matter of minutes. Why not moved to the chit-chat board, I have no idea. Just deleted.

In any case, it absolutely has changed some of my plans. I wanted to go down to Universal next month for a concert and cheapest airfare is about $600 round trip.

Didn't mean to start a thread topic I wasn't suppose to. Sorry if that's the case.
I was wishing I had bought airfare awhile back and was trying to decide whether it would still be better to purchase now than to plan on driving. Wasn't trying to start any debate or anything, just honestly trying to figure out what transportation means to take based on cost or what will be the cost.

I don't have a problem with it, but for some reason, the gas price threads and how it is effecting people's travel plans doesn't seem to be a topic the Mods want discussed.

I think the problem is when the "whys" of the rising gas prices come up which normally they do. The discussion gets political which is the no-no part.

Yes, it is sort of effecting our plans. Instead of driving the new Tahoe with more space & entertainment comforts for the kids to Port Canaveral in May the hubby keeps saying we should drive my car for the better gas mileage. We'll see how that debate ends closer to time. I'm pushing for the larger vehicle even if it costs a little more in gas. It's worth it for the space and DVD player.

The other one was deleted due to political discussions within the thread. I'm sure this one won't go down the same path.

I see..I honestly didn't really think of that. Hopefully it will stay within "it is what it is", so let's just discuss how are planning to get to Disney-because that's the fun part.

Exactly. As long as you can keep politics out of it, discuss away.

It's the same as any other price increase, be it tickets, hotel rooms, restaurant prices, etc. If you're on a tight budget, an increase will definitely have an impact. The question is, would it be enough to change your plans?

I'm sure it won't.....

And for what it's worth, the rising costs are a concern, since we usually drive to WDW. But even then, the cost refilling is still cheaper than air fare, so we make out ahead by a little. :)

I'm still thinking the general price in Florida will be around $4.10 on Memorial Day (as long as you are not at those price gouging leach stations just outside the park or the airport that keep getting mentioned in the news).

However, if it goes much above that number, I think it will have a negative impact on people coming to Disney further out. I think a lot of people are already committed to going six months out.

If they stay elevated for the next six months, it will mean a tightening souvenir budget before the next trip. If this latest spike fizzles and prices start to drop down again, then no long term harm. However, it does mean a change in driving versus flying. Flying, while always more than driving, will become costlier versus driving, so the plan is to drive in December for now. It becomes more and more economical to drive depending upon the size of your family. But if prices go up an additional dollar or more, and stay that way, it will have a greater impact overall. Hopefully, this will not be the case.

Yes it has changed our plans quite a bit! We are still going in May (driving) but we were planning on pulling our camper and camping at the WDW campground. We had to cancel those reservations and will now just get a generic hotel room. :( It would be way too expensive for the extra gas to haul the camper, and without it we can take our little Honda Accord instead of a big expedition. I'm very happy that we are still able to come though.

We're looking to fly. But lately air fare has been going the wrong way! I've got till October so hopefully it will start going down again before then.

For those of you who fly and/or want to fly. I would suggest creating an account with ORBITZ and sign up for weekly email specials. I have been planning a quick weekend trip once my DD starts in the CP and I just got a round trip ticket from DC to MCO for $197....total all fees. (SW was $153 each way plus fees for same dates) This will be great for those of you who plan to drive but are willing to watch the air $$ and book last minute. I will let you know up front the deal with the good prices does effect the time and you need to be willing to travel early AM and late PM. But for this trip it will work perfect for me. Hopefully this might help some of you all.

Also keep in mind when you price it out with ORBITZ any bag fees. We will only be going for 4 days so I can carry on.....They do not quote SW but they do quote JetBlue.

Just paid $720 for 2 people to fly from Boston to Orlando. Never in my life have I paid that much to fly to FL. We decided to purchase be because who knows how much higher they'll go if we waited. Didn't want to take he chance.

I already booked a trip for December and booked my airfare the first day it was available. I was able to get round trip tickets (Saturday AM departure -Saturday return Afternoon) for only 219 a ticket (from NYC). I have been monitoring the prices since I have booked and the rates have definitely have gone up.

We just booked our airfare for September. Roundtrip Portland, ME to MCO was $242 on AirTran. We have no choice but to fly for that trip so we were lucky to get that rate. Normally it's $300 or so from Portland. We're driving in May and we're saving about $300 a person doing it that way. Even if gas prices keep rising, we're still going to save.

It won't change mine. I still plan on making multiple trips this year as a sesonal pass holder. I was planning to go this past weekend, but some unexpected expenses came up. My drive is about 3.5 hours so we will always drive there. We take a four cylinder car so gas won't be too much of a hit on the wallet either. We might spend as much on tolls on the Florida Turnpike as we do on gas.
