I could have known that Jim Hill, would come up with something negative...

Rumors, Rumors, Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!!! Don't believe that guy...

I think that sums up rather well the credibility of the JHM article and site in general. ;)

I read JHM for several years, and one day, I woke up and realized that most of what he wrote was inaccurate/speculative. I gave it another chance, and found it wasn't worth my time.

you're kidding? He tried to run and unauthroized touring company inside the park. How did he do that... did he honestly think that sort of think was legal.. .sheesh.

it is true.. stupid people are breading.
From the article that was written on it is seems like Disney turns a blind eye to that sort of thing until it poses a problem or a guest complains. In JH's case 2 guests that had paid Disneyland for an "official" tour wound up mistakenly taking JH's tour and complained to guest relations. I'm sure that article is still on JH's site somewhere.

As I understand it, from JH's own version of the facts, he fancies himself as a Disney and Disneyland insider and has many stories about the good, bad and ugly of Walt, Disneyland and Disney in general. As part of that, he was promoting a walking tour of Disneyland where guests would meet him inside the park and he would escort them on a tour of the park and tell his stories about Disney's past (and possible future) including the bumps, bruises and blemishes associated with the parks and their creation. In no real surprise, Disney caught wind of these unauthorized "tours," asked him to stop and escorted him out of the park with security in tow - emphasizing that he was not authorized to conduct these tours and, in any event, guests were confused that these "tours" were officially Disney-sanctioned and/or impeded Disney's own ability to market similar behind-the-scenes walking tours (no doubt, without the blemishes).

I'm sure you could read his story of his dismissal if you do a search of past stories on the JH Media website.

I'm perfectly okay with this batch of rumors, though if they went to the Pixar themed Wonders of Life, I'd very much like to see it talk of the processes of computer animation in addition to the Pixar rides, rather then being a mindless Pixar themed overlay with nothing to bring to the park. I'm very glad Siemens likes Spaceship Earth as it is and it makes me wonder who a possible choice for a new narrator would be...

My take on the rumors:

Spaceship Earth - I am glad they don't want a thrill ride. I would hope they put money into it to refreshen the show scenes and the ride vehicles, etc to make it the great ride it is. I hope they pay to have the wand taken down.

Living Seas - I am fine witht he Finding Nemo. I don't mind the theaters being gutted and it taking a year or so to make the ride. I think the work outside should be done ASAP to get rid of the walls. Walls never look that good. If they don't want the entrance used then just block off the doors somehow, but finish the other parts outside.

Wonders of Life - It needs an update. At this point I really don't care what they do with it. I have never seen Making of Me, so I am sad I missed that. Cranium Command was great though, but dated. They do not need another ride like Test Track or Mission Space. I hope they keep the pavillion feel with whatever goes in it place.

It is not all doom and gloom. I am glad about Spaceship Earth not being changed dramatically.

Ehh, its Jim Hill, so I'm just going to take it with a grain of salt.

1. Well, I'm glad they aren't changing it into time racers. But I do hope they update some of it, like better special effects, animatronics, ect.

2. I don't really care about the Living Seas now because I really don't like the whole nemo rehab. I think they could've just updated to whole pavillion to look more futuristic and a better appeal factor than simply taking the marketing direction.

3. I pray to god this rumor isn't true. I will vomit onto my key board if they make another pavillion into a whole character based thing. It would play a role in destroying the whole Future World theme. And if they even decide to build yet another thrill ride, I will personally massacre all of the WDW execs. Epcot already has TT, M:S, and Soarin. They already have plenty of thrill rides. Enough is enough.

And don't forget, two of those thrills you listed are already in Future World East and it would be just nuts for crowd flow to put another thrill on that side.

What, are you worried all the people flocking to that side would leave the other side dead and empty? :lookaroun

I honestly don't mind one way or the other -- thrill ride, dark ride, d-ticket, e-ticket, Pixar, non-character... anything would be better than WoL. I've skipped it for several years and didn't care that it was closed. For me, it was a total waste of space and I just want to see something new and fresh.

I know some people liked it, but most I know seemed to "wonder" why anyone would visit more than once.

Jim Hill occasionally writes some pretty interesting articles. However, they are often filled with opinions masquerading as fact, and should be taken with a huge grain of salt. As a general rule, come here first to find out news/rumors about WDW. Chances are, you'll find nearly identical information on his website a few days later. Overall, the thing that bugs me the most about him is his writing style. It seems far too informal and "chummy." Speaking of his writing, did any other grammar nazis cringe at this line?
"...have reportedly been checking on the availability of "Body Wars" 's four simulators."

As for this particular article, I really can't see how he can call these negative changes. The only issue I have with any of his points is the Pixar Wonders of Life bit. Personally, I'd prefer original stories and characterization. However, if WDI feels that this is the most effective way to reach the intended audience, so be it. Other than that minor complaint, things really seem to be looking up in Future World.

Yes to only small updates for SSE.
No to Nemo ride. (I'd rather have a better overall pavilon, then this cruddy Nemo overhaul. Bring back the real Seabase Alpha and Hydrolators!)
Big NO to tearing down WOL! It's one of the last real Epcot Pavilons! Save Wonders!

Nothing at Epcot is worth doing more than once. (Except for the fireworks. That's about it.)

I kinda agree with JHM. I don't think that's enough for Epcot. I expect much more. Specially since they are celebrating a birthday soon.

I don't agree that everything is a one time hit only. Many attractions have a good return value, but WoL just didn't have it for me. (and most people I know)
