Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

The question is how far Disney will go in the queue and unload and whether the rumoured Olaf narrates a tour of today's Norway film will actually happen or not.

Oh, man. I mean, I kind of like Anna best, but really the only character / voice with enough gravitas to do a respectful narration is Idina Menzel. Olaf is the opposite of the right choice.

Well, if this is true then I see no reason why the Ratatouille rumor in France doesn't have some substance.
But we have heard tons of rumors of things that will happen and then don't.

Avatar was confirmed back in 2011 and won't be finished until 2017.
Frozen ride isn't confirmed...just a rumor.
Who knows how long it would take to build once (and if) confirmed. If they take too long, the hype of Frozen will fade and it won't get built.

For those scared of a Frozen ride being built...I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a rumor...no matter who starts the rumor and how much credablity they might have. (like all those Cars rumors a few years ago by whylightbulb) Even something that is so so so very close to a green light can get shelved to never return.

Rest easy...I doubt this will happen.

For the record..I don't care if they keep Maelstrom or change it up to a Frozen ride. It doesn't bother me to have more characters in the World Showcase area. As far as I'm concerned they can bring on the Ratatouille ride with Frozen.
But, if they don't they don't. Maelstrom isn't a must do ride for many. It just happens to be on of the last decent dark rides at Epcot and the only ride worth doing in World Showcase.

I kind of feel that way too. If they are willing to go with Frozen in Norway, why wouldn't they go all the way and add the rat as well? Especially with Fitzgerald being in charge, since he has been actively involved with the Ratatouille ride in Paris.

I honestly think it's a great idea. Don't get me wrong I am a fan of the classics but as a child I had no interest in going into that part of Epcot unless there were characters. I think the Frozen ride will draw more children into it. I did see the article about this and by the sounds of it, this is going to happen. I know Disney will still keep it educational too but there's gotta be something in there to draw the kids in.

Because the ROI on a Frozen ride and assorted merchandise is greater than anything Ratatouille could produce. And the overlay is cheaper to boot....

But adding Ratatouille to France gets people to walk to the other side of the lagoon -- which is often skipped by many families -- and can lead to increased time in the park/merch sales/food sales.

All that still wouldn't add up to what Frozen can currently bring in. And the cost of a Ratatouille ride is much greater than an overlay of Maelstrom.

Please Disney, if you're going to do this, spend the time and money and do it right! Don't go cheap!
With all you've done, quality-wise, in MK over the last 3 years, I would hate to see you go the cheap route for this. Take a look at your competitor up the road and see how they're doing things right now, which is NOT going the cheap route, but investing and doing things the right way!

yep and spirit stated over in his new thread that TDO will not be spending on any new rides from the ground up at Epcot, so ratatouille is not happening, thats how I read it anyway. He also said many plans are there for Imagination but actually doing something and going forward is a different story. no energy updates either that he knows of.

Oh, great, another Frozen attraction that will cause adults to go completely bonkers....like the 3 hour wait for the M&G at MK isn't bad enough.

Reality is World showcase was SUPPOSED to be about the countries and therefore fun along with educational. It seems a shame to lose that premise with the characters invading the area. there are 3 other lands dedicated to Disney characters they really should let EPCOT be that distinctive difference. One thing to be a character reference or narrator but to base the Country on a Disney variation of it is not fair to the origin of the country.
Look what happened to the Grand Fiesta, it would have been fine if they had just narrated but they over did them and it detracts from the power of a country with a history worth learning about.

I am not looking forward to this "overlay". Even though Maelstrom is outdated its still a classic...and the Disney classics seem to be dying out.

I do agree, but if done properly, this could be a pleasant addition... If perhaps "Princess Storybook Dining" at Akershus became more of a coronation feast in the Norwegian tradition, it would be a better fit to me thematically... Though I do hope there is still some history and heritage of Norway being taught...and how will the Frozen characters fit in with Geir Ness and his very very tight pants?
I agree The Mexico Gran Fiesta Tour was just not well done, though I don't think the original version of the ride did a great job of telling the story of Mexico either...

People act like El Rio del Tiempo -- (is that right?) was some jaw dropping must ride. The Gran Fiesta overlay at least gives people a reason to try it --- I love Maelstrom, but it is old and kind of weird. If it happens, it is a good thing.

No it wasn't toons like it is now, and part of it was mysterious...but the folk dancing film screens made little sense without any sort of explanation about what you are seeing... I know many people that did not get the dancers on dry ice staircases... It could and should have been done way better... And while I like Maelstrom, it is incredibly short, and no one seems to watch the movie...So maybe a well done overlay would make it more accessible to learn about Norwegian culture...
