Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

No, it was based on The Snow Queen, just as other Disney films were based on works by Andersen.

They originally wanted to do a straight up adaptation, but then end product was so far removed, it was more honest to say "inspired by" than "based on". It'd be like saying that the film The Lawnmower Man is based on the Stephen King short story of the same name.

And why Norway? What was wrong with Denmark as a source of visual design? Would Finnish styling have hurt the story?
Hans Christian Andersen was a Dane, The Snow Queen has Lapps from Finland as characters, and the title character was supposedly inspired by a Swedish opera singer. The Nordic countries collectively were as much an inspiration as anything else. Norway just happened to be in EP....

It was no more removed than The Little Mermaid or The Emperor's New Groove....

A) Then why did the credits say "Inspired by" instead of "Based on"?
b) If you're so positive, then why'd you ask in the first place?
Creative licensing, I would suppose. And what does it matter to you? That was a response to someone else....

Here's my problem with replacing Maelstrom: it's already arguably the most popular attraction in WS, and there are so many countries with no attractions, as well as empty space where new countries should go. I just don't understand Disney's logic in polishing the pretty teeth in the smile by enhancing rides that are already hugely popular (e.g. Test Track and Soarin', although I am excited about this one; I cannot lie) instead of replacing the missing (Wonders of Life) or broken ones (I'm looking at you, Imagination Pavilion).

They haven't answered yet. And you're not attempting to be helpful....

Sorry for the tardy response... I was sleeping. Time zone difference?

Yes, the film is inspired by The Snow Queen.
Yes, the final product is as much or little based on the source material as any other Disney film
Yes, the designers, directors, and animators went to NORWAY to design the film (perhaps because of a pre-existing relationship with Norway? I don't know. Arendelle is obviously a generic scandanavian influence, but Norway is specifically where they went.)
No, the film wouldn't have been hurt by having Danish, Sweedish, or Finnish influence, but we don't have any of those countries in Epcot.
No, I'm not trying to pick a fight - just trying to respond before getting the kids off to school and me off to work.

For the record, I am ambivalent about adding Frozen to WS... my real question was the practicality of expanding Norway to the left in order to keep Maelstrom AND add enough real estate to do Frozen justice.

Which may be easier in the Little Mermaid theater... Black light all around, and they can do some cheap tricks for the effects, and it just might work... Beauty and the Beast stage show suffers cause too much is cut, they can't obviously do certain things... Maybe if they enclose the BatB theater, maybe they can add in the equipment needed to produce those effects, even if done cheaply...

Exactly. I was thinking the VOTLM theater would be a better option for a Frozen show for this reason. In a smaller enclosed space like that, I think they'd be able to do Frozen justice.

Put a Tangled show in the BatB theater.

Can you imagine the wait times if anything Frozen goes into the VOTLM theater though? I agree they need an enclosed space to really make the show something special, but I just don't think there'd be enough capacity.

I've always wondered about using the Fantasmic venue for a separate show before Fantasmic. Dusk with digitally mapped projections on the mountain and live characters could really be something neat.

Think that eventually Frozen will get an attraction. A ride seems possible but arguably you could build a whole Frozen land where it snowed all year long or at least misted with sparkly snow effects. But how come there are no Frozen themed drinks out yet? It's almost summer they are missing the boat on magical icee type drinks. But i think in the short term a Frozen themed dining option in Norway could be the first step into capitalizing off the momentum right away. You could have a summer section, winter section and you could have great marshmallow Olaff desserts. Maelmstrom is nostalgic, cheesy, and yes very replacable by any modern technology but it does give you some insight into Norway's history. If your going to do something big with frozen the world showcase is not the place...adults go there to get away from the kiddie stuff...i still think the only place you could even think about it is Disney studios. On second thought...you could bulldoze Tom Sawyers island and do something great there...even replace the boat ride over with a sleigh ride

The degree to which they've screwed the pooch on this one is unparallelled. Minor and underwhelming character presence in the park, no attraction plans ready to go, minimal special food or drink offerings, and they can't keep merch in stock.

What happened to the days where the McDonalds Happy Meal toys showed up months before the theatrical release?

How about take the speedway in MK change to Frozen, sleds through a winter wonderland put in a ride through the woods and the castle and marshmellow. A few 'mist' ers and its a 'cool' ride or maybe a snow scene in the castle since it is a cross between the Fantasyland and the cross to Tomorrowland it is a fun frozen transition to a ride lost in space:rolleyes: Plenty of land and good use of a ride that is floundering...

I agree with you, I don't understand with all the empty areas in Epcot, why they don't build something new? I like the new test track, and I really would like a new soarin', especially if it was like Star Tours with multiple destinations, (not sure if that rumor really has any legs?), but updating or changing all the rides at Epcot doesn't solve the problem, I see which is there are not enough attractions.
