Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

Because it's not like Frozen's the only popular Norse-based property Disney owns right now.

Of course, he can't be used directly, but you can always push the Norse mythology angle of the pavilion further. Remember, the narrator of Maelstrom is Odin.
But, not Hannibal Lecter.

I know I'm in the minority but I would not be bothered in the least if they replaced Maelstrom with something new. My only complaint would be that it is not really enough space and I'd rather see a Frozen ride done correctly then done simply because they can justify it. And with WS having so few rides it is hard to justify them not adding to what is already there.

My real issue is why does it take so long for Disney to capitalize on its successes in the box office? There is no reason why we should not see Tangled and Frozen rides in the next few years. I really enjoy the Little Mermaid ride in NFL but feel like if they had not waited 20 years to put it in it would have been that much more popular. I mean, Frozen has gone on to make almost a billion worldwide (or has it already) and the parks will probably not see anything for 10+ years????? C'mon Disney-strike while the iron is hot.

This is the same issue they are having with Avatar. By the time they build it they will have to pray that the sequel does well because the original will have faded away into obscurity.

No, I can understand wanting to be cautious. After all, Brother Bear and Chicken Little were pretty commercially successful (especially compared to other films post-Tarzan, pre-Tangled) and yet neither one of those has really held up as a "classic". (With the former, I think that's a bit harsh, as it's a solid film- not a great movie, but also far from being one of the worst. With Chicken Little, well, I liked it, but I can totally see why some people hate it, as Disney was trying to make a movie like Shrek instead of making a Disney movie.)

So, yeah, if they put a film in the parks attraction-wise, generally, they want it to be something with staying power.

Its still early days but I do think Frozen has that staying power, its been a phenomenon. Sometimes Disney can be over-cautious, in the case of Frozen it might be wiser to strike while the iron is still white hot and capitalise on its obvious popularity. I'd love to see that happen, its never a bad thing to have another animated feature make its way into the parks and inspire great (hopefully) new attractions.

And Chicken Little was an abomination :p.

And, considering the rumors on this and other sites, it seems they are doing that, or are at least considering it.

Like I said, I understand. For me though? It's got Gary Marshall, Fred Willard, Patrick Warburton, Patrick Stewart, Steve Zahn, Don Knotts, and Adam FRIGGIN' West; I think I'm genetically incapable of disliking it.

I mean, this map from yesterland shows an empty site next door.

A bit off-topic, but this thread has already wandered off-topic on several prior occasions, so here goes -- I've seen this map before, and always found it pretty intriguing to think that they have that much additional space to develop if they chose to do so. Here's the thing, though -- I see the map, but it has never felt to me like there was that much space between the countries to fit a whole other pavilion in that space. The notable exception would be between China and Germany (2 & 3) where they currently have the drums, etc., but I would think that if they were to add more countries in those other spaces, it would feel really cramped. As it is, it seems like there's just the right amount of space between the countries.

How about a Frozen inspired movie on Norway in place of the very aged one that's currently there? :) Maybe people would actually stay to watch.

Malestrom is a rather short ride, and I enjoy it the way it is. I like woven in characters, but they don't need to take over everything, despite the popularity of a movie.

I agree Frozen has staying power, but how long did it take to get Beauty & the Beast represented by something other than a stage show & a meet & greet. Iger has already uttered the words 'Broadway in development' for Frozen, so here's my prediction:

Frozen meet & greet stays in Norway until they can move it to the MK. Frozen gets an in park stage show - possibly at DHS and then once Star Wars moves into its own park (5th gate debate anyone? :Do_O,) Frozen moves somewhere (Star Tours space? Unless they use it for more Pixar) in a ride form.

I also think Frozen gets a big screen sequel in the next 5 years. The storyline was almost all original. Lots more room to develop the characters too.

Beauty & the Beast didn't put up a nearly $1 billion in less than 3 months.

And the setting. Trolls exist, what about other creatures from Scandinavian lore? And what about people who get cursed with powers? Also, I want more political intrigue with Weaseltown, the Southern Isles, and any other kingdoms that might be in there (maybe Rapunzel's kingdom of Corona hint hint).

they all have about the same 'frontage' and if you look at this same picture from google earth, you can see exactly how they shoehorned these attractions in...

Does anyone know if this is true? I have heard from multiple sources with Disney (not basic staff employees) that they are debating re-doing malestrom to be a frozen ride or completely get rid of it to make a real meet and greet similar to what they have in MK for the princesses. They have told me it is a 100% that it will be changed but it is between the two decisions. Again does anyone else have information on this? The person I spoke with is one of the highest in Disney, but still IDK.

Wow, taking out another ride for a meetngreet??? this is getting downright bad. They better go with retheming it then to Frozen as much as I didnt really want that either. So they refuse to use the space next door to build something new then. cheap!!!

They need to remove the meet and greet entirely from Norway. You can't even visit that country anymore because there is nowhere to walk! They could move it to the empty building next to imagination, where giant figment used to meet OR redo the Merida meet and greet in the MK OR put them into the place vacated by the other princesses, next to Mickey.
