Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

I had the same question. Also, I can't imagine splitting Anna and Elsa up. Queen Elsa by herself would be the most awkward character ever. [And I adore Elsa]

There are going to be instances where either Anna or Elsa will be alone; even Princesses get sick, so it's makes sense to start prepping now so that they can still be in character without their partner.

If there is a third room, or they switch out Cinderella or Rapunzel, then it makes sense that the "visiting princess" will most likely be Anna. Which would work- the Rapunzel/ Snow side has proven that those two occasionally interact, so you'd still have the opportunity of getting both Anna & Elsa together.

The Little Mermaid was/is very successful/popular and made roughly 211 million worldwide, adjusted for inflation would be roughly 417 million ... the ride took roughly 23 years to open ... so using that math ... Frozen has made roughly 800 million worldwide, double basically, so we can't expect a ride for what ... another 11-12 years? :p:rolleyes:

The much better comparison is Finding Nemo (which Frozen has now passed as the highest grossing original animated movie), which took about 4 years to get tacked onto rides at WDW and DL and roughly a decade for the sequel.

I expect similar things to happen here, if they really fan the flames they could have something by mid-end of 2016 (certainly a possibility).

I honestly don't intend this as a shot across the bow to anyone, but I am stunned at the crazy love there is around here for Maelstrom. My initial reaction upon hearing of the potential switch was basically, "Oh good, that's a space that could really use a reboot anyway," and then I come into the thread and learn that people view it as sacrosanct. For me, it's always been one of those, "well, I'm over here and the line isn't long, I suppose we should ride Maelstrom," never really thought of it as a destination unto itself. Oh well.

I'm with you, it's a fun ride, but I like it more for the innovative drops and layout than for the "story".

I totally agree, I don't get the love, my wife absolutely loves it, I think it is definitely in need of a reboot.

Is it really an original film, though? Not saying it would have any bearing one way or the other on an attraction, but I thought "Frozen" was (at least loosely) based on HC Andersen's "Snow Queen."

I think officially it's now "inspired by" instead of "based on", in the way similar to how the film Lawnmower Man is "inspired by" the Steven King story, insofar as they are both have the same title.

One thing about Maelstrom, it is either everyone's favorite or second favorite ride in World Showcase.

Where love for it is concerned, there isn't much competition.

They do credit Frozen as being based upon or inspired by (I forget the exact verbiage) HCA's "Snow Queen," but the actual stories are quite different. Some similar elements, but you would not confuse one for the other.

I'm not all that partial towards Maelstrom, I just think including Frozen would be the antithesis of World Showcase.

Like including Donald Duck and a Brazilian parrot in Mexico's ride? Or having Disney-versions of folk tale characters do meet-and-greets outside pavilions? The fight was lost over a decade ago. At least maybe this way they'll update the movie at the end.

I am of the opinion that those past errors provide no justification for continued abandonment of mission. I'll take a weak theme over a weaker theme.

Since the girls are so ridiculously popular (Every toy store around my house is out of Elsa stuff completely) I'm sure they'll both be coronated into the Princess Line and then hopefully find a permanent spot somewhere for the M&G. I really wish they could theme a small space for them like they did with the Garden when Tangled and Brave came out.

I assume this to be the case as well, although I was kinda wondering about how they would handle it with Elsa already being a Queen, which kinda trumps princess status. Maybe Anna is inducted and Elsa is given some sort of not-a-princess-but-basically-still-a-princess status. Also interesting because even though Anna's character is much more developed and more the focus of the story, my daughter is all about Elsa. Of course, she's blond and so is Elsa, and when you're 4, that's probably enough.

Anyway, will be intriguing to see what they end up doing with these two.
