Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

Magic Kingdom just received an entire new land, and Epcot needs some love.
That's Disney's problem, not ours. Just because Epcot needs something and this is convenient does not mean it doesn't break theme. They should have designed New Fantasyland with their theme-fitting upcoming film in mind, in case it struck gold (or better, as it seems).

Additionally, how mad do you think they'll be in 5 years (or more . . . Or less . . .) when Frozen still doesn't fit in Epcot and they realize they could have been cashing in BIG TIME had they committed to making a brand-spanking new blockbuster attraction somewhere that has the room (and THEME) to accommodate it, instead of wimping out on their insanely profitable franchise with an ill-fitting overlay?

It just seems so short sighted . . . they would make more money in the long run doing the property justice.

Frozen has already been introduced at MGM with the summer "party". My thought would be to use the Magic of Disney Animation buildings and build a new Frozen ride in its place. It is basically just a glorified meet and great area now and a shell of its former early 90's glory. This would give MGM a shot in the arm until Star Wars comes in. It fits this area much better than at Epcot and it gives MGM some much needed addition.

This would give this area of the park a new jolt and still leave room for Pixar Place to expand AND Star Wars to be added which would balance out the park. This would help the Toy Story Mania crowd as well.

I really worry that Disney is rushing into this and will shoot themselves in the foot. As others have said, they are being short sighted. Frozen isn't going anywhere and they could extend the MGM "party" for many more months while they take their time and build a solid ride from scratch, not just quickly throw an overlay together. It doesn't need to be an E ticket ride but they need to think about how to use the popularity of Frozen to benefit a park that needs it. MGM needs it more than Epcot.

I'm making a quick trip to Epcot in early September to ride Maelstrom a few last times and take video of it from all angles.

So ... doesn't mean you just stick your obnoxious characters in an area they don't belong. You could replace Maelstrom with a ride through the Fjords without characters and it would still be popular. However they need to add something without replacing with another.

Plus Magic Kingdom still needs more capacity.

Glad I made the quick trip to ride this in May (wasn't planning on hitting Epcot but figured I would make a little detour. Glad my gut told me to ride Maelstrom).

I'll probably ride it one last time sometime in September.

And it's not this amazing ride, but the point really is that Frozen deserves better and so does Maelstrom. This isn't the answer. But like others have said, that's well been established.

Wonder when this will get the 'official' Disney announcement treatment. They aren't seriously announcing this during a television special? LOL. Come on. I mean, I'll be the first to say sorry, I was wrong, but is this a fact or speculation (the announcement, not the ride itself, I know it's coming, eventually)

Once Maelstrom is down, has there been any rumor regarding length of time this attraction/area is expected to be down? I recall reading somewhere that it would take 18 months. Also, does anyone know if the entire pavilion is going down, or just the ride?

I really do not expect an announcement until well after Maelstrom has been closed, and probably closer to opening.
Eh, there will have to be an announcement that it is closing. I would not be surprised if that announcement is very light on info regarding what the refurb will end up looking like, though. Maybe they will steal some concept art from this thread since it is better than the middle school calibre sketches they seem to produce nowadays.
