Well... I can't add much to this thread except that I took a unique video with very light sensitive equipment 2 years ago... check out my video of the ride I suppose I wouldn't mind if they updated it but kept the spirit of the ride in tact.

I had actually seen this video before. Great filming! I really like how all of the colors are bright and clear. Some others I have seen are too dark to even tell what is there.

Just saw this.. http://www./headlines/abc-to-air-th...pon-a-time-big-hero-6-plus-new-announcements/

"In addition, the special will also include exciting announcements about the next chapter of Frozen"- Leaves me wondering if they might announce all their plans for Frozen, including an attraction.

I was wondering the same exact thing. Guess we'll find out September 2nd.

If you watch the special that they did on the Frozen Bluray, a good part of it explores an old attraction that was designed for Disneyland based on The Snow Queen. They had all the concept art for it, and Mary Blair was with them to go over it since her husband did all of the art. Towards the end of it, the director says "They need to finally make this attraction." Blair then goes "Maybe they will." I doubt that they put that part in the special for no reason. When it comes to anything successful, Disney always has a purpose behind everything that they do. I have a feeling they took out all of those old designs, and reworked them to fit Frozen. If that is the case, then I am ALL FOR this attraction being built.

We'll see what happens.

i am looking forward to the frozen overlay happening.
if it does take 18 months to complete just shows me that disney wont take shortcuts with it.
i appreciate maelstrom for what it is and it is a charming ride but disney chooses to change it up so may as well be Frozen.doesnt bother me in the least...
i am excited for any new attraction being added.

Interesting thought. Eighteen months is a long time for a simple overlay of a smallish ride...

its not a new attraction, its stuffing in a theme (where it has no business being) into a way too small of an existing space. IF the theme of frozen is used as a tour of Norway somehow etc, then I would be half way okay with it, but if it carries no Norwegian aspects to it all, its outright wrong. This is Epcot not the Magic Kingdom, all that of course is unfortunately changing.

Said this in another thread, sorry to repeat it here:

The biggest problem that I see with turning Maelstrom into Frozen - the capacity is about 900 per hour.
The ride is short, and it has a fairly low capacity. That's a problem that cannot be overcome if they don't do some combination of these four things : 1) entirely change the load area, 2) completely re-imagine the ride system, 3) expand the footprint of the ride building to make the ride longer, 4) expand the hours for World Showcase (or at least Norway) beyond 10 hours per day.
All but one of those is not an easy fix.

If 60,000 people a day show up to see the new ride, about 51,000 people are going to be sorely disappointed when they cannot get on the new ride because 10 hours times 900 per hour is 9,000 people per day.

The most popular animated film in 20 years (possibly ever), the 5th biggest grossing film of all time, and the plan is to refurb a small attraction that lets 9,000 per day in? :banghead:

like yourself,i would certainly hope that disney would celebrate norway as a culture in its Frozen themed storytelling.
i really wouldnt want anything mindless just to appease the toddlers.
i respect epcot and believe disney can do Norway and Frozen proud.

ETA:eek:r it could all be mindless pap to sell more funny hats in the gift shop or take selfies with.

yeah thats the worry right there, and paper olafs on a stick:banghead:. but def agree with all you just stated.

Another thought - where do they queue the people, if this ride is popular? Something like a billion people have seen this movie, and heard the songs (you hear people singing the songs at the supermarket). Even the most minimal "book report" dark-ride of the movie is going to attract some crowds...
Right now they have about 30 minutes of queue. Maybe the theater room could be another 30 mins of queue?
Load and unload will need reconfigure too it's a conundrum.

How do you shoe-horn something this insanely popular without building a new ride building and at least allowing for a very large queue? Are they counting on the popularity being about 3% of what it is now in 2016?

I will miss Maelstrom. And I'd also welcome a Frozen attraction almost anywhere. Just not here. Thinking about it, even for just 5 minutes - the sense of squeezing something this popular into that building, in that corner of EPCOT, leaves me with about a hundred questions.

Am marginally more concerned we'll have crowds wrapped around the lagoon from 9am to 9pm to get into this thing, than what this will do to the integrity of Norway pavillion and its culture. Though that is a valid concern too. Maybe Norwegians should mount a youtube / social media campaign to stop this? (oh wait...)

Moving the queue to the theater with load move has already been mentioned.

Or DHS which could definitely benefit more from a Frozen attraction or land.
Funny you should mention that. I saw it hinted on another thread from a reliable source that Great Movie Ride is going away and being replaced by something "Very Cool" which I assumed was a Frozen ride. Which, if true, sucks for Frozen to come in and slap down two classics.

But if you read further in that thread you will see that there is some debate as to whether that source really is reliable.

To play devil's advocate/the other side of the spectrum...from a Frozen fan standpoint (just to be clear - I am all team Maelstrom and will be super disappointed if it is completely 'Frozen over') is it really fair that a Frozen attraction is shoved into the smaller space w/small queue capacity of Norway? And unless they gut the entire attraction - Maelstrom is relatively a short ride...so this attraction would be short as well.

It's not really fair to Maelstrom fans who don't want to see their ride become a thing of the past - nor is it fair for Frozen fans to see their attraction be put somewhere it doesn't belong. Give Frozen it's attraction...in DHS or Magic Kingdom where you have the space to really give it the attention it deserves. Leave Maelstrom alone.

I still think this may be an interim step that allows them time to decide if they want to build a complete land or mini-land somewhere. And I further think they will decide to. But only if the franchise continues to be such an amazing success. IMO.
