Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

I actually just think Disney is trying to change the acronym for Epcot:

Each Particular Country's Overlay Travesty

You know even when they make World Fantasyland Showcase, it would be pointless closing Down FutureWorld's other attractions at 7pm..

Sorry dont want to read through all 180 pages, but can some one tell me when Maelstrom is supposed to go down for the overlay? Im going in December and hoping for it to still be open

I'm really convinced that the money that was going to go to the JIYI's referb was switched to work on a frozen ride. I was talking to some of my castmember friends (Who work attractions btw.) and back in January they were going to close imagination and referb it but that never happened..

And back in January was when frozen got really big..

I am very upset with this. Maelstrom is one of the few things left from Epcot Center it would be a real shame for them to close it for some poorly written cash cow.

The church is not dedicated to Frozen. It has side by side comparisons between Norwegian culture and how it inspired the movie.

My point, though, was that the movie has already made its way into the pavilion.

I may be getting preyed on but I still want a Maelstrom shirt. I would've bought one last time I was in Epcot if they sold them. Of course the whole reason I want it is because the ride is closing. This just feels dirty on their part, but I can't resist

Once they changed El Rio de Tiempo to 3 Caballeros, the writing was on the wall that character driven rides or attractions in WS was a possibility moving forward. This is just the next step, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rat moved in to Paris at some point.

Those bother me less for a few reasons. (Not saying I’m fond of those changes or anything)

- Ratatouille and Three Cabelleros at least take place (at least partially) in the countries in question. Frozen does not.
- Donald didn’t completely overtake the merchandise locations in Mexico and the ride is somewhat tucked away. You could wander around the pavilion and have no idea that Donald had ever invaded if you don’t’ ride the ride. Also, El Rio was a dead ride unlike Maelstrom which still pulls in crowds even if it is outdated
- As for France. If they added a ride without removing Impressions and tucked it away so the characters’ weren’t in your face, I could deal. Again, not enthusiastic about the idea, it just wouldn’t crush me the way the loss of Maelstrom would.

This is not to say I endorse the way WS is heading. Its just that the Maelstrom step seems like they are amping up the changes to a new level.

I feel like even Ratatouille wouldn't necessarily be bad. It's a love that relishes it's setting and gives a legitimate and fairly authentic portrayal of Paris. In my opinion, even Three Caballeros was not necessarily a bad idea in theory given that the original movie is basically a massive travelogue for Mexico and Mexican culture, it was just done in the TDO style of ridiculously pathetically on the cheap that it's a disgrace. The biggest issue with Frozen in Norway is that it's not a Norwegian themed film. It's vaguely Scandinavian and Norwegian-ish, but given that it's not directly linked in anyway to Norway outside of the design aesthetic and geographical features. I know WS wasn't supposed to originally have characters, but I feel if it's done respectfully and with reverence to each country's culture (and most importantly NOT CHEAPLY) it's not necessarily a bad thing. The issue is that Frozen is not Norwegian and more disgracefully they'd be getting rid of an authentic Norwegian culture ride in favor of fabricated, tangentially-related culture. Just my two cents.

I agree with Gomer, if they added Remy to France without removing Impressions (One of my favorite WS shows next to AA.) I would be okay with it. But if they had to remove it, I would be very upset. It is one of the most beautiful WS shows imo.

I think I am just done with the hype of Frozen (Tumblr really messed it up for me with all of the crazy fans..) and I really don't want it in the park. Meet and Greets and shows are fine, but not a full blown attraction..

Oh by the way, I am really wondering because of Elsa's popularity if they will get rid of the Anna FC like they did with Flynn/Euegene's Fc..

I somewhat agree with adding the rat ride in France pavilion, I'm also not totally against seeing characters in WS, if, they add something educational/cultural for every cartoon they add. BALANCE!

As I recall from way back, Phoenix stated that he believed that it would be more than an overlay. I'm hoping that he's correct.

Not trying to give them a pass for Mexico. I just think its degrees of a similar problem. I think Maelstrom would be a much more egregious violation of the theme and a much larger disruption to the pavilion in general. I feel Mexico, while both poorly conceived and executed,can be ignored without completely bypassing the Mexico Pavilion's better options for cultural enjoyment.

Or maybe its just those Le Cava margaritas that keep me from noticing as much...

Ok, take back everything I said. If they can figure out a way to supply massive amounts of tequila in Norway (or Frozenland or whatever they decide to call it) maybe it won't be so bad. The future of World Showcase is drink until you don't notice how far its fallen. Every pavilion looks good through 180 proof glasses.
