Rumor Frontierland Shootin' arcade to close and replaced with DVC Member lounge

They may simply consider it an issue inasmuch as it doesn’t fit with the revamped vision for Frontierland.
Great, so replace it with an attraction that does. I’d still complain about the loss of an opening day, classic, attraction but even if they were putting in a “sort the sundries for the co-op delivery” game it would at least be a replacement and not a subtraction.

Don’t disagree. Just saying the logic may be slightly more nuanced than “guns bad”.
We know for a fact that there is a committee that is against lots of things including Main Street USA itself. The fact that cartoon weasels can no longer kidnap Jessica Rabbit is all the proof you need that this committee is a bit crazy.

The arcade is part of the park history and could have been updated with cartoon pop-guns like are used on midway mania.

I must be the only person who couldn’t care less about this shooting arcade. I’ve probably been to MK at least 100 times and I think I’ve used this once.

Do I wish they would use the space for something that isn’t a DVC exclusive lounge? Yes. But there isn’t much room for anything else and it’s not like they were going to build a Snack stand / QSR location when MK still has so much shuttered dining space.

Right, which is why I’m saying it’s probably about a bit more than guns. They want a DVC lounge, they have a different theme in mind for Frontierland going forward, they have a space that would need to be rethemed anyway and isn’t heavily trafficked, etc. This is the nexus of those things.

I would have liked to see the shooting gallery stay but I think the DVC lounge will actually “add capacity” in the sense that the EPCOT one is always packed (at least the 4-5 times I’ve tried to go there is always a waitlist)— I would prefer a ride, but from at least 11AM on, the lounge means 30-100 DVC people who aren’t crowding other restaurants, concession lines, rides, etc. How many people was the gallery absorbing at any given time?

Something I'm curious about is whether or not they'll preserve the sets used for the shooting arcade. I can totally see modern Disney destroying it though.

A management team with an ounce of brain tissue would take that brand new, completely unused airport terminal they just built in EPCOT and turn it into a museum of removed attractions ... and then take the shooting gallery sets and put them over there as a starter exhibit. They could change out the exhibits every three months or so with old props and sets and still keep all the seating, etc.

But this management team does not have an ounce of brain tissue, so I'm certain you are correct and they will destroy it.

I hear the "penny" machines play a nice tune.......
There are 2 working band organs left in Disneyland, one in the Candy Store / Penny Arcade and one in a back corner of a Frontierland store.

The original calliope still exists by Dumbo, but they only play a recording of it now.

At MK there used to be a working band organ in the train station, I’m guessing it came from the penny arcade. It was “out of order” for years but not sure if it still exists.

I remember playing the Band Organ when it was in the arcade....I think it was more than a penny.... Hearing that when you walked down Main street....along with the piano player at Coke corner which was later Casey's was great... It was another touch of immersion...The current soundtrack is ok, but it does not have the authenticity of those old instruments playing... And the penny arcade was so much fun as a kid... the old flip book movie machines...Not sure why they could not keep some of the things that were placemaking... Like the arcade and the Magic Shop...

a new DVC resort? Or regular resort?
I don't think there is enough demand for another completely new resort...From what I gather from the remarks here, there are tons of vacancies all the time....enough for them to convert portions of theGrand Floridian and Polynesian over to DVC units... and the Moderates are all the price of the Premium resorts, and the resorts are now in the moderate plus priceline...When you can stay at the Westin Dolphin for cheaper than the Port Orleans, something is out of whack

And Wilderness Lodge converted rooms for Copper Creek. I'd lump the Fort Wilderness cabins in as well.
