That would probably be an interesting thing to research...since I think we both graduated with a very close degree...if I ever go back to school and had to write a research paper on something about the media...that would probably be it.

I actually wrote soooo many papers on kids tv, and movies too. Ask me anything about class issues and Toy Story. :lookaroun

It's just that there are so many levels of information out there to digest. Many times the kids don't get the subtle differences, but I do. You'd be surprised how much sexism there is in tv.

I'm sure. I'm sure that kids TV is probably sometimes not the best thing to watch for the little ones.

And class issues and Toy Story huh? :lookaroun

My kids aren't going to be allowed to watch TV for a looong time. I've just studied so much on the subject, and the longer I can hold out, the better for my kid. I know I'm going to cave in eventually, I'm just hoping I can make it the first year.

There's a TON of class-ism in Toy Story. Look how Andy and family had to move out of the neighborhood where Sid lived. Sid was protrayed as lower-class, and possibly that's why he was the way he was.

Huh - I always assumed that was from lack of parental attention. I never thought about why they moved. And honestly with TV, with a baby they're more likely to turn toward the sound than 'watch' it. It's between the ages of 2-5 that you take care what they watch and how much. Sometimes you just need that 30 minutes they're in front of the TV to get supper going, or even grab a quick shower you haven't had time for yet.
Our situation is a little different. We get a lot of repetitive language out of Joel while the TV's on and he's learning sequencing in shows like Dora, or Wonder Pets. He's trying to do so many things interacting with the TV we use it as a springboard to communicating with him.

that's very true about the Toy Story thing and something that I guess I "knew" but didn't really think about until you just brought it up. Hmm...gives you something to think about.
