Not true in the slightest bit. If “our brain starts shutting down the body,” how would those on the ketogenic diet survive?

We start producing ketone bodies which our brain can use for fuel. Some argue a ketogenic diet is healthier than a carb heavy diet.

And others would vigorously disagree.

I'm speaking as a runner and my comment about shutting down referred specifically to "hitting the wall", because that is exactly what happens. I burn between 2000 - 2500 calories running a half marathon. My muscles need glycogen to function. To have to convert protein to glucose once my supply is depleted isn't efficient. And yes, once glycogen supplies are depleted, your brain will start to shut things off if you don't replenish.

Incorrect. Ketone bodies. Google it. Plus amino acids can converted to sugar to supply the brain. Christ, do some research.

Also, the vast majority of the populace don't run half marathons. Your dietary requirements are the minority.

There is a large number of people who run, who play sports, who are extremely active... who live an active lifestyle. Go to a park, gym, or beach sometime.. you’ll see them.

This thread went from free refills at Disney, to whether or not soda is bad for you, to what defines fresh beer, to whether or not carbs are bad for you. In one day.

Just saying.
Ah, but (a) free refills of (b) good-or-bad-for-you soda and/or (c) fresh beer, which also contains carbs, impacts the (d) number of good-or-bad carbs you consume in a day... so it's all related and on-topic.

Jim Fixx was a fitness promoter in the late 70's. He was big on running. He died at age 52 of a heart attack while running.

I don’t even know where this came from. My kid is irrelevant to this.. other than I won’t let a child drink soda, or store bought juice, or high sugar processed foods on a regular basis.. I have the same rule for myself.
I think this should be a no-brainer when it comes to parenting, health, and the good of society altogether. It’s not though, hence why we have an obesity problem in this country.
Agreed, but soda is only a portion of the obesity problem. Portion control and daily calorie intake with no fruits and vegetables are a far greater issues than sugary drinks.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

Lol, you can’t post a random graphic you found on Google images and use it to define the obesity epidemic.

You sound like my aunt who is an expert politician, part time physician, world class chef, and personally knows God. Please, solve some of the other epidemics plaguing the world.
I can confirm that my father does not in fact know your aunt ;)

Did anyone ever answer the original question about free refills no longer being a thing? I'm not reading through 17 pages of the forum's resident crazies debating healthy living.

Don't think so. From what I can find on the internet you are allowed 3 refills in the paper cup, you must wait a certain time between refills. If anyone has different info speak up

Busy today, huh?

To summarize: there were reports of machines locking people out at port orleans...nobody knows if it was a test, glitch, policy or false report.

It went way off the rails from there.
