Fountain View Ice Cream closing in early April for Starbucks conversion

I don't want to see logos, signs and other corporate branding wherever possible. It reminds me of reality/outside world - and I can do without that. I'm in WDW to get away from all that. It might well be Starbucks coffee, or Joffrey's or Nescafé... But I don't care to know that.

The reality is, those corporations will want you to know they're there. Especially when it comes to that whole "sponsorship" thing. That's the whole idea. So if they can keep it to a minimum, I guess we'll have to take it.

I like what they did with the Starbucks mermaid logo at DCA (mentioned in another thread), the uniforms, etc. Very low key, fits in with the theme, etc.

I still won't drink Starbucks (I think it sucks) - but that's another story. :D

they are all over the place, nothing special about them so I don't understand the need for them being in our special place.

well for one these chains don't exist without having first been special or liked or else obviously it would have been one struggling and now likely out of business store. I would also tend to think there must be something about them for thousands to exist to meet a demand for them when other options exist. as a result being liked by many people it's a comfort thing knowing its something they are used to and want. I would think that all of us here realize as we discuss fast passes and attractions that we as a society are creatures of habit and tend to follow the same trends and routines we build up in our lives.
I honestly don't see why one label is scrutinized and hated on such a level that other labels are not held too. it's called dole whips, not Disney whips. the vending machines still pump out powerade and coca cola not magic kingdom kola. we could make the same argument that there is nothing special about coke that Pepsi couldn't offer, why are some brands acceptable and yet giving us other choices is so wrong? I understand it stinks for people who will miss out if for instance the float they always got is now gone, but if others we're also all getting the floats and giving them business there would never have been talk of starbucks taking it over to start with.
(end disjointed rant between free moments at work)

[for the record I am not a fan of Starbucks, I like their espresso shots but that is premade and sold in like a soda can and not made at the actually coffee shops. a bunch I my family members love them though. being fa true jersey boy it's Dunkin Donuts for me, with the one exception of pressed coffee at Boma when in Disney]

Being a Georgia boy, it is Krispy Kreme for me, but hey, I like Dunkin Donuts too, especially blueberry munchkins.

I liked Krispy creme but they were never around me, if I went to the city (NY) I used to see them but I think the one in penn station became a Tim hortons. that said timbits are like munchkins on steroids.

I think the fear is the big green signs and WDW becoming more like the outside world. At least it is for me. Imagine walking down Main Street or around Innoventions and having the choice of Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger Kings, Hooters, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, TGIFridays, KFC and more, then stopping in to Macy's, Kohl's, WalMart, Sears, Target, Home Depot, Lowes and more, without ever having to leave MK or Epcot. Disney does manufacture magic, and I fear it being diluted.
I do understand your fear, but I also believe it is quite unfounded. The difference between Starbucks and the other chains that you mentioned is enormous. This is the equivalent of Coke at Casey's or, for that matter, Edy's at the Fountain View. It's the same as that as long as it remains a location and not a store. I doubt that anyone in Disney thinks that Brand Stores would be a good idea. However, that said, Walt had no problem with it in the beginning and the place had the magic and still does.

All together...breathe.

Just returned from visiting Disney's California Adventure where the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe was remodeled to accommodate Starbucks. Other than a mention in the map that the Cafe served Starbucks Espresso and Specialty Beverages, there were no blatant Starbucks signs on the outside or inside the Cafe. Yes, the beverages were all served in the familiar cups but the artisan sandwiches, soups and salads were Disney. Adjacent to the Cafe was Clarabelle's Hand-Scooped Ice cream, and the seating for Clarabelle's was in the Cafe...a large, beautiful space with lots of tables. Disney paid careful attention to detail as always.

So I believe that FountainView will continue to serve ice cream as before. And if they take a cue from Clarabelle's and offer custom-made ice cream bars, I will be one HAPPY person!

The branding is there in DCA - it's just done tastefully so it doesn't stand out much..

Here it blends into the design of the Pig Cafe's exterior

I'm willing to bet the branding will be less obvious than the EDY'S logo that's currently slapped on the Fountain View sign.

Please take this information with a grain of salt, but from what I've heard from my department the Ice Cream will be departing from fountain view. It is possible to be returning at another location but I'm not 100%.

It would make sense. Starbucks are not into Ice Cream, and there is the new France Pavilion ice cream outfit opening in June.
