Now that Disney got wise and got rid of the, imo, worthless clubs and shops in Pleasure Island, what should they dump next?

Nostalgia is fine and dandy, but it don't bring people into the park now, its new better rides or attractions. My personal choice of attractions Disney should dump:

Carousel of progress- Its nothing more but a time waster and space eater. Prime property like this could be used for something much more meaningful. Sure it has history, but it needs to go. Extremely dated.

Swiss Family Treehouse- Do people even go to this any more? In all my years and trips at Disney, I've personally never experienced this one. Someone please explain why this should stay?

Tom Sawyer island- Quick, ask a child under the age of 10 if they know who Tom Sawyer is? Chances are they don't, and this old attraction is showing its age with every day that passes. Its really not fun anymore, even for my children. We don't even acknowledge its existence when we visit.

So if you could dump one of these, which one would YOU choose?

Fist off don't expect COP to go anytime soon, it was Walts favorite and he asked them never to get rid of it. They should just modernize it!!!!!

Have you ever seen Swiss Family the movie because the tree house In WDW it a pretty good replica. Also it doesn't take up much space so what do you suggest they use the space for?

I totally agree with the third point I hate Tom Sayers island. They need to redo it completly and add a restaurant and maybe a put in a show!

I love the Treehouse - its the queue line ride! :) I've always got to go through it at least once every trip. Makes for good pictures too.

When I was a child under 10, I didn't know who Tom Sawyer was -- that is, until I went to Tom Sawyer's Island! (Well, I guess I always knew who Tom Sawyer was because I first went there when I was under one.) TSI is classic! I do agree that they need to pep it up though - maybe put back in the old teeter-totter rock and merri-go-round rock. I wouldn't mind if they added some pirate upgrades to it like they did at Disneyland. I also would like it if Aunt Polly's actually served lunch items again instead of just ice cream.

I also love CoP... so my choice for an attraction to dump goes to Pooh's Playful Spot ;)

CoP really doesn't take up much space, there wouldn't really be room for anything other than a theatre based attraction so I see no need to close it, all it needs is an update to the final scene and it would be perfectly current.

Same with Swiss Family Tree House, there really isn't much else you could do with the space. Might as well just leave it there.

So my vote goes to Tom Sawyer's Island since there's plenty of space and potential there. Or even adding attractions to the island and keeping the current theme.

The attraction that I'd most like to see go is the Speedway, tons of space and it could be used as either part of Toon Town or Tommorowland.

To me, this says more about today's children, parents, and educational system than it does WDW. That said, I'm not wild about Tom Sawyer Island or Swiss Family Treehouse, but I honestly wonder what worthwhile attractions could be put in their places.

I am glad that you do not run any of the parks. I believe that nostalgia is a major reason why people come to Disney World. Most people remember their first trip as a child, and they come back with their children to gain that again. They love it's a small world, and Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion, and their is a cult following for Carousel of Progress.

Look at Epcot: there has been a major move to the more nostalgic parts of the park. The new color scheme at Spaceship Earth and all of the retro shirts call to the nostalgia that everyone wants.

In this time where our future is uncertain, I believe that nostalgia will begin to play even a bigger part in our culture. So, keep the nostalgia, just make the rides better!

What!?
CoP- A great ride that takes you through the history of societal advancements in daily living within the home. Hokey? Yes. Endearing and entertaining? Yes. Its a keeper.
SFT- I have seen the film several times at my daughter's insistence. Those who have not seen it should. Perhaps the tree house will inspire them to seek a classic era of Disney entertainment. Its a nice addition to the area in which it is placed at MK, and the view is great. Keep it.
TSI- Let's not blame a floundering educational system on Disney World. Literature was meant to be read instead of being made into a Nintendo game of some kind. Let's get our kids reading in this Nation and we won't be able to complain about their lack of exposer to works such as Tom Sawyer. As for the attraction, what kid wouldn't enjoy time exploring an island with a fort and an underground tunnel? Hot and tiresome for a parent? Yes. Fun for a kid on vacation? You betcha! Keep.
I'm sorry, but I just can not agree with the OP on this one. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect the one stated within this thread, but I like Disney World, old and new. :)

Personally I'd rather they didn't waste their time on any of these choices. Focus on the parks that need the most work like DHS or AK. If I had to be picky get rid of Airels Grotto and the play ground and give me back 20K or add another major ride to Fantasy Land!

It concerns me to think that an entire generation is oblivious to Mark Twain, America's first popular humorist and the forerunner to Saturday Night Live. (No joke!)

None of these can be replaced, but CoP needs to get repainted with a more eye-catching color scheme.

The tree house gets much higher attendance than you may think!

Just because alot of people don't go on a ride or attraction, doesn't always mean the ride or attraction is unloved, unpopular, or bad. There are more factors at hand.

I'm never the only one on swiss family tree house, there are always adults and kids having a good time exploring, and actually getting exercise, and a little learning lession from exploring the tree house. It has a great theme, is timeless, and elegant. It by no means needs tarzan in it, which does nothing more than date the movie to some forgotten 90s fad. There is nothing else that could be built in its place except for another dumbo ride or gift shop.

The swiss family tree house is surrounded by grown up foliage, and very little signage. It offers great views, and is nice place to get away from the crowds, and do something off the beaten path. If the foliage was cut down, and there were more signs and ads, then yes, more people would go on it.

Tom Sawyer island is pretty easy to maintain, and the mouse isn't going to be throwing money into it anytime soon. Many first timers don't go there because they are so fixed as to what is on the main paths. I didn't have time to do Tom Sawyer island on my first trip, but when I finally did, I enjoyed it.

Tom Sawyer island, like Swiss family has always been a quiet place, but full of people of all ages, relaxing, walking around and enjoying the view. It even allows kids to run off some energy, and parents to get away from the hustle and bustle of fronteirland

The CoP doesn't hold up that much land, and is in no prime real estate spot because behind it are storage spaces and parkinglots needed for CM's and workers, as well as the land dips down and becomes the railroad.

Nothing substantial could be built in place of the galaxy palace theater, except for maybe a better CM break room. Even by demolishing the skyway station, there isn't a whole lot of land for any major E ticket attraction.

The CoP isn't going anywhere, it's had all of its theaters refurbished, it's audio improved, as well as various cosmetic repairs, and that is just the beginning for what will come in the next year or so (depending if management keeps true to the planned budget)

Some people like the ride some people don't, it has seen better days, BUT can still see more better days. It needs more advertising, and ways of drawing people over there. Let alone the ride can take over 200 people every 4 minutes, rarely causing a line, causing many to think the ride is closed, let alone wonder what it is.

I'm sure that's annoyed a few AC fans!

Carousel of progress- Its nothing more but a time waster and space eater. Prime property like this could be used for something much more meaningful. Sure it has history, but it needs to go. Extremely dated.

No No No! It's a charming attraction which requires only a little space and represents Disney perfectly. I'm not even sure this needs a refurb!

Swiss Family Treehouse- Do people even go to this any more? In all my years and trips at Disney, I've personally never experienced this one. Someone please explain why this should stay?

Note sure about this one, it's ok, I go round it each time but mostly for a different view of the park - not so much for the attraction. That said, what would go in its place?

Tom Sawyer island- Quick, ask a child under the age of 10 if they know who Tom Sawyer is? Chances are they don't, and this old attraction is showing its age with every day that passes. Its really not fun anymore, even for my children. We don't even acknowledge its existence when we visit.
Tom Sawyer isn't really a big thing here in the UK but even so, it's worth a visit. It's almost like a break away from the park. DLP has skull island which I prefer but I don't think I would want to see it in WDW. Again, what would go in it's space? It's not exactly efficent to get people across to the island so any E-Ticket is out of the question

None of the above. If I were to get rid of a MK attraction it would probably be the Tiki Room Under New Management, possibly Stitch or maybe Snow White

I haven't been on SFT in many a year ... plus it takes up some pretty valuable real estate. I'm not necessarily saying to dump it, but if something better came along ..*cough* IJA *cough* .. I probably wouldn't mind that much.

It wouldn't fit there anyway, but there's a lovely expansion pad in between the Jungle Cruise and PotC.

The MK doesn't need to lose anything; it needs MORE attractions!

Disney thrives on people's memories, traditions and guests wanting to relive childhood memories. If they were to get rid of every old attraction then they would kill everything they've strived for. I just don't see it happening.
