Forbidden Journey Breaks Down

I've been informed that the issue wasn't even a technical one. There was a hold up at the loading platform and as anyone whose been on the Haunted Mansion or Spaceship Earth when a disabled guest boards knows, with continuously-moving loading platforms, if there's a delay at loading the whole ride has to be stopped monetarily. During this brief time, multiple 911 calls were made and OFD told Uni to do an evac.

So what we have here is the media making a mountain out of a molehill about one guy making a mountain out of a molehill.

I've lightened them up for better visibility. You can see the curved screens that make up various portions of the ride, the Kuka arms with the attached benches, the evac catwalk, and a very nicely themed backstage hallway.
Enjoy.

Oh...and in case anyone was wondering....
Best attraction ever.
Seriously.

Did they mind you taking pictures?

Yeah. When they finally came and got is out of the vehicle they asked for no photos.
Before that, there was nobody there to complain.:drevil:

What portion of the ride were you in? Looks familiar in the background, I just cant put my finger on it.

Yeh, Ive been evacuated from space mountain and everest. never need a firefighter to help me.

You would have if someone who was stuck on the ride decided to call 911 like an idiot.:brick:

No help was needed to evacuate anyone from Potter. The team members handled it very effectively. The firemen only came because a guest paniced and called them. They can't ignore a 911 call, even if (like in this case) they were not needed at all.

Exactly. Well put. And a rainbow in the media fear mongering way of looking at things like they wanted everyone to read into it...

this is a compliment to the response time of 911 services to the park. Something many parks get heat or are questionable with.

Yeh, space and splash mountain break down. It happens when they are 20+ years old, not when youre 2 months old.

So because these rides are older, they should breakdown more often? It sounds like you're suggesting Disney does no upkeep on their older attractions. :veryconfu If anything, the older attractions should have FEWER breakdowns. They have had plenty of time (as in decades) to "work out the bugs" and aren't nearly as technologically advanced.

Yes.
Typically, the first few months of an attraction's life is the time they experience the most downtime, not later.
Especially one as complex as FJ.

I think of all the rides i would want to be stuck on and then have the lights go on for an evac it would be haunted mansion, but if we traveled outside Disney HPFJ would win HANDS DOWN! it's so complex the nerd in me would kill to see what the mechanincs of it all were like up close and personal.

I understand that rides break down, but to me it's a bit shocking that the people were stuck on the ride for at least an hour and a half. That's a bit ridiculous. Furthermore, evacuations can usually be handled by park staff. When the fire department needs to be called it seems a bit more serious.

I don't think the fire dept had anything to do with how universal was handeling it, it was just a scared and somewhat overreacting guest who got scared while stuck on the ride.

I don't think you understand what happened.

- I am unaware of anyone being stuck for an hour and a half. We were off in about 30min.
- The fire department was NOT needed to get anyone off. The only reason they came was because an idiotic guest overreacted and called 911. Had they not done so, the IoA team members would have had everyone off and the ride up and running much more quickly.

The article said that 911 calls were received at 8:15 and that guests were removed at 9:45. If this is incorrect, then my point is invalid.

My understanding was that the 911 call came from Universal, not a guest. On that point, I stand corrected.

I looked at my watch as soon as we stopped. It was nearly 8:15. I stepped onto the evac catwalk at 8:40. Some guests may have taken a little longer to get off, but I really doubt it took another hour.

Yeah. We directly asked a team member about it during our evac. She rolled her eyes and said a guest freaked out and dialled 911. That call turned what would have been a brief stop into a full evac.
