flying tinkerbell from castle

The thing that always interests me is how much performers in these sorts of unique roles get paid. For example, a stunt actor doing a controlled burn usually does only that in a show. So, although there's lots of prep time involved, you could take their daily wages, divide it by shows, and come up with a "paid per burn" amount.

Assuming "Tink" does this, and only this, I wonder how much "she" makes per "flight." I've heard that it's over $100, but that's all I've heard.

I think it's close to that. All the girls who did it when I was there ONLY did the Tink flight, as far as I know (the two I talked to were college students who just did it at night).

And I've also heard (from Keys to the Kingdom Tour) that if 'Tink' dresses (for the flight), Tink gets paid whether the 'run' is made or not (i.e. weather, winds etc. cancellation). Any confirmation from CM's?

That's true of any virtually any entertainment role, across the various theme parks. Florida is known for its storms and heavy rain weather. So there are plenty of occasions when entertainment staff, especially characters for meet and greets, do nothing but sit in the break room all day or get sent home early. And yes, they are paid for their shift because they are basically "on call" for when the weather does clear up. So, if it's on your schedule, you're most likely getting paid for it (or at least getting paid the minimum call amount if sent home early, or have performances cancelled, etc). The only scenario that comes to mind for when a performer wouldn't get paid is if they are cancelled in advanced (i.e., do not need to show up at their call time). But that could vary depending on the contracts for the "contracted performers."

The theme parks have been doing a better job of placing characters in all-weather locations, but there's always a few who can't go out because of the location or the backstage route to the location.

I never asked her personally, but I'm pretty sure that is the case because we had several nights where she was fully dressed and in the tower and they called off the flight at the last minute. Since she shows up and does everything, I'm fairly certain she would still get paid. I know I was still on the clock many days when DAWM was rained out and I was just sitting under the stage watching TV.

A few years ago someone posted pictures of just that. I'll have to do some searching and see if I can find them. It was a most "unmagical" climb...

No, that wasn't serious. Sorry, I thought the ":p" clearly implied that I was joking (and suggestions that the real path is likely just as unglamorous).

Once again, you aren't far off. I actually got to see the Cinderella Suite the same day we did the climb to help carry the sandbags up (before I went over to the catch area). We took the suite elevator up, then there were some stairs to get to one point in the rooftop. The part that looks similar to that is the portion of the last, tall tower. It's VERY narrow and just a steel ladder straight up. It's REALLY stuffy and hot and the room is extremely tiny. How three people (two techs and Tink) get up there each night is beyond me. Once you are in the room, you can close a hatch to cover the ladder access and give you a bit more space. Sorry, don't have any pics of that, I just help carry the bags up and then had to run over to the catch area.

Oh, I should mention the stairs AREN'T in the Suite (it might have sounded like that). We just did a quick stop and checked it out because no one was in there at the time. The stairs are in the "lobby" area of the suite (where the elevator lets out). I was told that if someone was in there, we would've taken another route, but that's the route we took.

If the pics aren't online anymore I'll post what I can ;-)

I searched and searched and could not find the photos. I definitely remember them being posted. They showed a ladder, and the top part of the tower which was covered by (if I remember correctly) nothing more than a 2 by 4.

The top part has a wood hatch that closes over the "ladder hole" once you are in the room so you have some extra floor space (because you definitely need it there). Somebody could've put the 2x4 there for some sort of work, but that was what was in place when I went up there.

You also have to remember that Tink is wearing a bulky harness under that costume... It's bound to make some odd bulges in certain areas where the straps have to go...

LOL, if I had a dollar... :ROFLOL:

Edit: That's gotta be the safest zip line in the world! Just imagine how many cameras would capture any sort of (heaven forbid) accident or other malfunction.

Yeah, she is pretty well strapped in and you also have to remember she is being hit from two sides with spotlights on the entire journey down which of course casts some odd shadows. The suit definitely isn't flattering up close. All I can say for sure is that during the time I was on the Tink crew, we NEVER had a male in the Tink suit.
