That line doesn't look very taught.

Stretched lines can be very deceiving in appearance. Gravity works it's magic on extremely taut wires nonetheless...just look at any telephone pole.

The real test is how much give a line has once there is a load attached.

So how is it done now?

They way we did it when I was on the catch crew is we had a padded moving blanket, there would be a tech on boths sides holding it (VERY tightly) and when she got closer to us, we would start running and basically slow her down with the blanket. The first time I did it, they told me, "make sure however tight you think you need to hold it, hold it tighter because she comes down faster than you think." He wasn't kidding...she's is moving when she gets towards the bottom.

We had it slack when I did that pic. They often have it a little slack during the day. We were doing a line test (we send stage sandbags down the line) that we had to do every once in awhile and I was at the bottom waiting for it. We were about to stretch the line when I took the pic.

We did Keys to the Kingdom a few years ago and our tour guide made a big deal about it and I remember exactly how she worded it:

"Yes folks, Tinkerbell flies into a burlap sack."

Not sure how true it is, but that's what she said.

That's funny...not quite burlap, but not far from it. I believe it was a padded blue moving blanket...no handles, just had to grip it like crazy. There was a pad at the end of the cable, but I was told if she hit it full speed, she'd definitely break something

This is slightly unrelated, but also, in digging through some of my old phone photos from that day, I found these. I believe these are the old astro orbiter vehicles from before the update. They are sitting backstage behind the building that was on the way up to the Tink catch location. Kinda sad, they were just sitting there with trash in them. Don't know if they are still there (once again, I last worked there in 2008).

If you look in the background of the last one, there's an "alien" that was broken that was from the Buzz Lightyear ride as well...

Always amazes me where things get stored! LOL
For a company that is so organized and has so many rules, sometimes you have to scratch your head and wonder how that happened.

Yeah, that's what I thought when I started working there. You definitely see that many times, in the name of budget or just lack of attention, certain things are either in disrepair or just ignored.

The thing that always interests me is how much performers in these sorts of unique roles get paid. For example, a stunt actor doing a controlled burn usually does only that in a show. So, although there's lots of prep time involved, you could take their daily wages, divide it by shows, and come up with a "paid per burn" amount.

Assuming "Tink" does this, and only this, I wonder how much "she" makes per "flight." I've heard that it's over $100, but that's all I've heard.

What is your source? You keep saying incorrect, but you have no experience or sources.

Well, I WAS on the Tink crew and I never saw a male ever perform as Tink, but I'm not going to say it isn't possible it could happen only that USUALLY is definitely a false statement, so I have his back on this one.
